Job Reference: 1603086
About the Role
We are seeking a strategic and insights-driven Data Analyst to join Student Services and play a key role in delivering evidence-led decision making across the organisation.
This role goes beyond reporting and number crunching. We are looking for someone who can interpret and explain data, uncover the “why” behind trends, and translate complex information into meaningful insights that support operational planning, service improvement, and student success.
Working within the Insights & Performance project, you will partner with stakeholders across Student Services to provide visibility of performance trends, demand drivers, and operational outcomes through high-quality analysis, reporting, dashboards, and visualisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain dashboards, reports and visualisations using Power BI and approved reporting tools.
- Analyse operational and student data to identify trends, patterns and opportunities for improvement.
- Translate analytical insights into practical, evidence-based recommendations for stakeholders.
- Support strategic decision-making through evaluation of initiatives, campaigns and service performance.
- Contribute to peak-period forecasting, workforce planning and service readiness activities.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to define reporting requirements, metrics and performance measures.
- Maintain data accuracy, integrity, governance and repeatable reporting processes.
- Support service reviews, workflow optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Selection Criteria
- Experience working in a data analysis or insights-focused role, including building dashboards and visualisations.
- The ability to explain data clearly and confidently to a range of audiences - this role requires strong communication and strategic thinking, not just technical analysis.
- Demonstrated analytical and diagnostic skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong capability to interpret and translate complex data into reports and insights that drive action.
- Experience using relational databases, query tools and reporting platforms such as Power BI.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders through evidence-based insights.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
- Experience within the higher education sector.
- Experience with student information systems or CRM platforms such as Student One or Oracle.
Role Requirements
- As this is a fixed-term role, you must obtain the working rights that match the tenure of the role.
- Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.

- Reduced demand pressure and lower cost-to-serve through improved self-service success and fewer repeat enquiries.
- Better investment decisions through evidence-based scale, change or stop recommendations.
- Greater trust in data through consistent definitions, curated datasets and reliable reporting.
