There’s never been a better time to be in energy. And there’s never been a more exciting time to be at Endeavour Energy.
More than 2.7 million people across New South Wales rely on us every day for the supply of safe and reliable power to their homes and businesses. We employ more than 1,700 people across our catchment, making us one of the largest employers in Sydney’s Greater West.
About the Role
There’s never been a more exciting time to help shape the future of Australia’s energy network.
As Principal Engineer FEED (Front End Engineering Design), you will be the technical authority for investment engineering within our Engineering Design function. You will lead the development and assurance of network investment options, establish the technical and commercial guardrails for decision-making, and drive excellence in project estimating across a diverse portfolio of network and customer-driven projects.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring investment decisions are supported by robust technical analysis, sound commercial judgement, and transparent governance. You will oversee the Network Project Estimating Framework, influence major capital investments, and build organisational capability in optioneering, estimating and evidence-based engineering recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
-
Act as the final technical authority for FEED optioneering and project estimating, ensuring investment decisions are informed by technical, commercial, risk, staging and whole-of-life considerations.
-
Own, maintain and continuously improve the Network Project Estimating Framework, including class-based estimating methodologies, contingency approaches, risk treatment and lessons learned.
-
Establish technical guardrails that ensure engineering effort is aligned to project maturity, customer requirements, investment risk and decision confidence.
-
Lead and assure critical options analysis for network and customer-driven projects, providing clear recommendations supported by technical, operational and commercial evidence.
-
Apply techno-economic analysis to evaluate alternative network solutions, delivery pathways, staging strategies, affordability, constructability and long-term asset value.
-
Provide technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring estimating assumptions and investment decisions remain aligned as projects progress into detailed design and delivery.
-
Develop and embed standards, tools, governance processes and assurance practices that improve the quality, consistency and transparency of engineering outputs.
-
Mentor and develop engineers and delivery partners, building capability in estimating, commercial thinking and investment analysis.
-
Leverage market intelligence, benchmarking data, contractor feedback and project lessons learned to continuously improve estimating accuracy and decision quality.
About You
You are a highly experienced engineering leader with a strong background in electricity networks, infrastructure design and investment planning. You combine deep technical expertise with commercial acumen and have a proven ability to influence major investment decisions.
You will bring:
-
Extensive experience in electricity network design, engineering, planning or major infrastructure delivery.
-
Strong knowledge of FEED processes, optioneering methodologies and project estimating practices.
-
Experience developing business cases and evaluating technical and commercial investment options.
-
Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to provide clear recommendations to senior leaders and decision-makers.
-
A passion for mentoring and developing engineering capability.
Qualifications, Certifications and Licences
Essential
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
-
Significant experience in electricity network or infrastructure design and delivery.
Desirable
-
Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation or equivalent.
-
Postgraduate qualifications in Engineering Management, Power Systems, Systems Engineering, Business, Leadership or Contract Management.
-
Training in project management, asset management, safety in design, leadership or cyber security.
