Systems Engineer — Job Description

Role summary

Design, integrate, deploy, and maintain reliable, secure, and scalable IT systems and infrastructure to meet business requirements across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.

Key responsibilities

Architect and implement system solutions: servers, storage, virtualization, networking, identity, and cloud services.
Install, configure, and maintain OS (Linux, Windows Server), middleware, and platform services.
Design and manage infrastructure-as-code (IaC), automation, and configuration management (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, etc.).
Deploy and operate cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) including networking, IAM, compute, storage, and managed services.
Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog).
Ensure system security: patching, hardening, vulnerability management, access controls, and secure configurations.
Manage backups, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and business continuity.
Troubleshoot performance, availability, and integration issues; perform root-cause analysis and remediation.
Collaborate with developers, DevOps, SRE, and security teams to design CI/CD pipelines and support application deployments.
Maintain system documentation, runbooks, runbook drills, and on-call rotation responsibilities.
Support change management, release coordination, and lifecycle upgrades/migrations.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to operational best practices.

Required qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
3+ years’ experience in systems, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
Strong Linux administration skills; solid Windows Server experience preferred.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and core services.
Proficiency with IaC and automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, Bash, Python).
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls).
Experience with monitoring, logging, and incident response processes.
Good scripting/programming skills and troubleshooting ability.

Preferred

Certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, RHCE, CKA, etc.).
Experience operating high-availability, large-scale distributed systems.
Security certifications or experience with compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO27001).
Experience with database operations, storage architectures, or edge/cloud-native patterns.

Pay: $55.12 – $80.32 per hour
