Job Description:
The Laboratory Engineer ensures SLB’s fluids solutions meet client requirements and industry standards, directly supporting drilling efficiency, wellbore stability, and environmental compliance. The position requires strong chemical engineering knowledge and elements to ensure the performance and safety of drilling, completion, and waste management fluids.
The position holder identifies continuous improvement opportunities during service delivery, implements standard work, and manages risk during service delivery. This person interfaces with the customer to apply the appropriate fluid design and identifies opportunities to introduce new technology solutions and applications.
Successful candidate are excellent communicators, enjoy solving problems, and work well in teams.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Ensure job deliverables are accurate and delivered on time.
- Perform advanced additive selection for fluid design and recommend solutions to improve the process.
- Perform procedural and process improvement plan feasibility, development, and implementation within the laboratory and fluid testing domains.
- Ensure that laboratory equipment is in clean, working condition and that waste is regularly disposed.
- Monitor the operation, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Prepare technical presentations for internal and external customers.
- Perform regular audits to ensure the laboratory operates according to required standards.
- Assist the Design/Technical Engineer and Product Champions with technical support as required.
- Perform a Risk Analysis before each task/job to identify and mitigate potential safety or quality concerns.
- Participate in Service Quality Meetings with customers and improve performance using action plans.
- Participate in HSE and Quality initiatives.
- Wear PPE and observe HSE policies.
- Maintain the required safety training.
Qualifications and Experience:
- The position requires a degree in either Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Min 5 years relevant laboratory experience
- Skilled in Laboratory instrumentation - calibration, maintenance and application. (E.g., Rheometers, Low Pressure and High-Pressure Fluid Loss Apparatus, Dynamic & Static Ovens, Retorts for Synthetic/Water Analysis, Emulsion Stability Meters, Turbidity Meters, Permeability Plugging Apparatus, Production Screen Testers, Total Suspended Solid Centrifuge and Chemical Titrations for Heavy Metals, Chlorides, Water Hardness and Buffering ability of Water Based and Synthetic Based drilling fluids)
- Experienced in deploying and tracking reagents and laboratory equipment requirement to field locations.
