Role Summary
Besselink Master Painters Pty Ltd is seeking a qualified Painter / Painting Trades Worker to complete high-quality surface preparation, painting, finishing and maintenance work across residential, commercial, strata and institutional projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
· Erecting and safely using ladders, trestles and restricted-height scaffolding where required, in accordance with site safety procedures.
· Placing drop sheets, masking materials and protective coverings to protect floors, windows, fittings, furniture, landscaping and surrounding areas from paint splatter or damage.
· Preparing interior and exterior surfaces by removing old paint, wallpaper, loose material, dirt, grease and other surface contaminants.
· Repairing and preparing surfaces by fixing minor woodwork defects, filling holes and cracks, sanding, smoothing, sealing and priming surfaces before painting.
· Preparing timber, plaster, concrete, render, metal and other building surfaces for the application of paints, stains, varnishes, sealers and protective coatings.
· Selecting and preparing paints, coatings and finishes to required colours, textures and specifications by mixing pigments, oils, thinners, drying additives and other approved materials.
· Applying primers, undercoats, finishing coats, varnishes, stains and protective finishes using brushes, rollers, spray equipment and other painting tools.
· Applying decorative finishes, wall coverings and wallpaper where required, including matching patterns, trimming edges and ensuring clean finishes.
· Reading and interpreting job instructions, maintenance scopes, colour schedules, product specifications and client requirements.
· Inspecting completed work to ensure coverage, colour consistency, finish quality, durability and compliance with project requirements.
· Cleaning, maintaining and safely storing brushes, rollers, spray equipment, ladders, tools, materials and work areas after completion of work.
· Following workplace health and safety requirements, including correct use of PPE, safe handling of paints, solvents and chemicals, and compliance with site procedures.
· Working cooperatively with supervisors, tradespeople, clients and team members to complete projects efficiently and to a professional standard.
· Maintaining accurate communication regarding materials, work progress, access requirements, defects, safety issues and project completion.
Essential Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
· Certificate III in Painting and Decorating, or an equivalent relevant trade qualification.
· Minimum 1 year of full-time post-qualification experience as a Painter, Painting Trades Worker or closely related painting trade role.
· Demonstrated experience in surface preparation, paint application, colour matching, finishing and maintenance painting.
· Ability to use painting tools and equipment, including brushes, rollers, spray equipment, ladders and scaffolding equipment where permitted.
· Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, PPE, chemical handling and safe site procedures.
· Ability to complete work independently and as part of a team while maintaining consistent quality standards.
· Strong attention to detail, reliability, punctuality and commitment to professional workmanship.
· Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, contractors and team members.
Desirable Attributes
The following attributes will be highly regarded:
· Experience in maintenance painting, strata complexes, commercial buildings, government facilities, embassies, institutional properties or residential projects.
· Current White Card, or willingness to obtain one before commencing site work where required.
· Current driver licence, preferred due to project site requirements.
· Knowledge of different paint systems, primers, sealers, exterior coatings and protective finishes.
