Your new role:
This position is responsible for managing the development and implementation of the destination’s visitor economy and event plans and strategies to support the growth of the visitor economy and delivery of events that connect people and place, creating a positive legacy for the community.
Key responsibilities

Lead a multi-disciplined team focused on the delivery of destination management event delivery and seven-day Visitor Information Centre service.

Lead the delivery of the 2025-2034 Destination Management Plan and Council’s Events Strategy and Action Plan

Secure grant funding through submissions and deliver major events and tourism projects (both capital and operational) funded through NSW Government programs and delivery of these funded programs.

Implement actions from State and Council plans and strategies in partnership with key stakeholders in the region and evaluate their effectiveness.

Ensure continued support and growth of the Wagga Wagga Tourism Partner Program base and the promotion of member benefits through identification of and liaison with potential new members.

Manage the core visitor economy marketing channels and annual campaigns.

Facility management of a nationally accredited, 7-days a week Visitor Information Centre and retail outlet

Oversee the development and delivery of key City events, festivals, and event sponsorship activity to ensure funds granted are leveraged to their maximum opportunity to achieve common strategic objectives.

Develop and manage all elements of the City's visitor servicing strategies including the visitor information centre operations.

Develop and deliver public presentations and undertake media interviews as required

Oversee the development and implementation of a dynamic and effective annual Destination Marketing Plan and Digital Content Strategy.

Measuring and reporting on the impact of the Visitor Economy and Event team's activities including evaluation of visitor economy marketing and promotion campaigns.

Communicate and disseminate research and industry trends to all visitor economy stakeholders.

Developing and maintaining networks and relationships between the Council and key tourism bodies, business groups, businesses and other entities, government agencies and the community to support the growth of the City's visitor economy and to attract and nurture quality events.

Involvement in Council-wide cross-directorate working groups and committees, including administration of Council’s Major Events Films Festivals Sponsorship program

Research and write Council reports, briefings, business cases, acquittals, service plans and manage operational budgets
What you will need to succeed:

Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position – Marketing, Event Management, Tourism, Project Management, or other relevant discipline.

Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
Skills and experience

A robust understanding of event design, risk management and delivery as well as destination management plan implementation are critical in this role. The ability to develop and manage multiple projects, budgets, deadlines, and team objectives, setting goals and analysis of outcomes are essential.

Extensive experience in leading high performing teams and adapting to, influencing and leading change.

Demonstrated ability to improve performance and outcomes through innovation

Highly developed communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills including sound conflict resolution, negotiation, and presentation skills to engage with multiple stakeholders internal and external stakeholders

Sound time management; organisational; financial; administrative; strategic and business planning; and computer skills.

The ability to develop and maintain collaborative and cooperative partnerships.

Demonstrated high level project and team management skills, including appropriate development and motivation experience.

Sound knowledge of statutory requirements of various acts and regulations relevant to the position and solid understanding and experience in risk assessment of projects, activities, and tasks.

Demonstrated commitment to deliver quality customer service.
