Purpose of the position
The purpose of the System Administrator position is to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the client's IT infrastructure. This role involves overseeing the daily operations related to system administration, including designing and maintaining server configurations, performing system backups and recovery procedures, and implementing system documentation, guidelines, policies, and procedures. The System Administrator is responsible for testing system upgrades and patches, resolving system issues, and ensuring system security and disaster recovery planning. Additionally, the role requires liaising with external vendors and service providers, managing software security applications, and troubleshooting server-related hardware and software malfunctions. This position is critical to maintaining the integrity and security of the client's IT systems and ensuring optimal performance.
Responsibilities and duties
Oversee the daily operations related to system administration, including:
- Design and maintain server configurations, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of system architecture and security.
- Perform operational establishment and preventive maintenance of system backups and recovery procedures, enforcing security and integrity controls.
- Implement and administer system documentation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Test system upgrades and patches, debug, track, and resolve all identified problems according to approved quality testing scripts, procedures, and processes.
- Take responsibility for processes, procedures, and operational management associated with system security and disaster recovery planning.
- Liaise with security vendors, suppliers, service providers, and external resources; analyse, recommend, install, and maintain software security applications; and monitor contractual obligations, performance delivery, and service level agreements.
- Troubleshoot and provide service support in diagnosing, resolving, and repairing server-related hardware and software malfunctions, including workstations and communication infrastructure.
- Prepare and maintain documentation, policies, and instructions, and record and detail operational procedures and system logs.
- Ensure that the design of computer sites allows all components to fit together and work properly, and monitor and adjust the performance of networks.

- A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology
Work experience and skills
Essential experience
- Proficiency in managing and configuring Windows and Linux servers, experience with virtualisation technologies such as VMWare or Hyper-V
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure
- Knowledge of network protocols, firewalls and security best practices.
- Familiarity and understanding of the AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) industry and its relevant tools and applications
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
Desirable qualifications
- Prior experience in system administration, IT support or related role
- Experience in managing voice and telecommunication systems such as 3CX

Relationships
Details of relationships relevant to this role
- This position will be trained by the Service Desk Manager with ongoing support and supervision
- Internal relationships with other teams within the organisation for escalations and project work
- External relationships with end users who may have varying roles from administration through to C-level executives that require technical assistance
- External relationships with vendors and other service providers to coordinate hardware and software faults for the purpose of resolution
Pay: $75,086.28 – $85,000.00 per year
