About the Business

Kaji Pty Ltd trading as Kalapani Nepalese Restaurant is a well-established dining destination located in the heart of Sydney CBD. The restaurant is renowned for delivering authentic Nepalese and Indian cuisine, exceptional customer service, and consistent food quality to a diverse corporate and professional clientele.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining high culinary standards, contributing to menu development, and ensuring efficient kitchen operations in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Plan menus and estimate food and labour costs
Prepare and cook menu items in accordance with recipes and established standards
Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation
Train, supervise, and coordinate kitchen staff including cooks and kitchenhands
Manage stock ordering, storage, and inventory control
Develop new dishes and refine existing recipes in collaboration with management
Ensure smooth coordination with front-of-house staff for timely service
Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations
Implement and improve kitchen systems and operational procedures

Skills & Experience

Proven experience working as a Chef (minimum 1 year preferred)
Strong knowledge of Nepalese and Indian cuisine (highly desirable)
Experience in menu planning and costing
Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume kitchen environment
Demonstrated leadership and staff training experience
Strong understanding of food safety standards and kitchen operations

Qualifications

AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent)
Diploma of Hospitality Management (or equivalent)
Valid Food Safety Certificate (preferred)
