This is a 17 month fixed term, full-time position commencing August 2026 with possible extension (17 months)
Education Business Services (EBS) is the Department’s central provider of professional business services and support to Western Australian public schools, statutory boards, and divisions. Through its finance, ICT, and infrastructure service areas, EBS delivers responsive, flexible, transparent, accountable, and collaborative support that strengthens organisational capability and supports the delivery of high-quality education outcomes across the system.
The School Financial Management and Support Branch, within the Financial Services Directorate, provides schools with specialist support on transactional and technical financial matters, financial governance, and policy implementation. The Branch is also responsible for coordinating school financial systems and delivering training and support to strengthen financial management capability and compliance across schools.
The Role
This role leads the development and implementation of cross-divisional financial projects, with a strong focus on strengthening financial processes, controls, and accountability across schools and central services. Responsibilities include developing and reviewing policies, standards, resources, dashboards, and strategic initiatives that support financial management, asset management, accounting practices, and compliance with legislative and departmental requirements. The role also oversees training and professional learning programs, monitors service delivery effectiveness, and prepares high-level reports, briefing papers, and ministerial correspondence.
The position contributes to branch leadership by driving innovation, continuous improvement, and change management initiatives, while supporting the development of system-wide strategies and business intelligence tools aligned to departmental objectives. It also plays a key role in identifying and addressing audit and compliance risks, improving operational capability across schools, and contributing to a safe, inclusive, and high-performing work environment.
A strong stakeholder engagement focus is essential, including liaising with senior officers, regional offices, and schools to provide financial management advice, intervention strategies, systems support, and training. The role requires building collaborative relationships, resolving complex issues through research and consultation, monitoring customer service performance, and representing the Branch on committees, reference groups, and project teams.
