SANE Australia is looking to fill several vacant roles on the Board and is seeking applications from passionate, experienced, and values-driven leaders who want to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of people affected by complex mental health issues and trauma.
We are inviting applications for Non-Executive Director positions on both the SANE Australia Board and the mirror board of The Dax Centre.

SANE supports people experiencing complex mental health issues and trauma, and their families, friends, and carers. We do this through online support services, advocacy, community and connection.
Through The Dax Centre, SANE also works to reduce stigma and deepen public understanding of mental health through art and education.

To achieve this vision, we have three goals:

- Eliminate stigma, discrimination, and social exclusion.

About you
You may be an experienced director, an executive, a subject matter expert, or someone with relevant lived experience who is ready to contribute to thoughtful, compassionate, and effective governance.
We are looking for people who meet the essential requirements of the role, and one or more of the highly desirable skills, qualifications or lived experience perspectives listed below:
Essential requirements:
- Board, committee or advisory experience.
- Strong governance capability and understanding of directors’ responsibilities.
- Strategic insight, sound judgement, and financial acumen.
- Risk oversight capability.
- Integrity, empathy, collaboration, and a commitment to purpose.
- A willingness to actively contribute to Board and committee work.
Highly desirable:
- Legal
- Finance, accounting and audit
- Governance, compliance, and risk
- Clinical or other relevant professional practice
- Digital, technology, data, AI, and cybersecurity
- Human resources, people and culture, and work health and safety
- Fundraising and philanthropy
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander governance and partnerships
- Marketing, communications, stakeholder engagement, and government relations
- Lived experience of mental ill-health, grief, suicidality, distress, and/or trauma
- Lived experience as a family member, carer, or someone bereaved through suicide
Board members are expected to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to their governance responsibilities, including:
- Attendance at regular Board meetings (approximately six per year).
- Active participation in at least one Board Committee.
- Diligence in preparing for meetings and active contribution to Board and committee discussions.
