PROJECT ENGINEER - TRANSMISSION (Stringing)

POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Engineer - Transmission (Stringing) supports the planning, coordination, and execution of conductor stringing, tensioning, sagging, clipping-in, and associated works on the Western Renewables Link project. The role is site-focused and works under direction of the Senior Project Engineer and Project Manager to ensure stringing activities are delivered safely, to specification, and in accordance with approved methodologies, program requirements, and AusNet / WRL standards.
The position has accountability for day-to-day engineering control, supervision support, quality documentation, and interface coordination between tower erection, access, and commissioning teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Stringing Preparation & Planning
- Assist with development, review, and implementation of approved conductor stringing, tensioning, and sagging methodologies.
- Support preparation of stringing schedules aligned with tower handover and access readiness.
- Review stringing drawings, profiles, tension charts, and sag tables for field implementation.
- Assist with establishment of stringing sites, drum pads, puller-tensioner setups, and guard structures.
Site Execution - Stringing & Sagging
- Support on-site execution of conductor, OPGW, and earthwire stringing activities.
- Coordinate daily works with stringing supervisors, crews, and specialist subcontractors.
- Monitor adherence to approved methods, exclusion zones, and environmental controls.
- Assist with monitoring sagging operations, temperature corrections, and clipping-in activities.
Safety, Quality & Environment
- Assist in preparation and implementation of SWMS, JSAs, permits, and high-risk work controls for stringing activities.
- Verify inspection and test plans (ITPs) are implemented, including conductor handling, sagging verification, clipping, and hardware installation.
- Support quality inspections, punch lists, and progressive handover documentation.
- Promote safe behaviours and compliance with WHS requirements in live corridor and public interface environments.
Interfaces & Coordination
- Interface with tower erection, access, vegetation, and civil teams to maintain stringing continuity and productivity.
- Coordinate with land access and stakeholder teams for planned stringing operations.
- Support interface with AusNet representatives and Independent Certifiers during inspections and hold points.
Commercial & Reporting Support
- Assist with measurement of completed works and verification of subcontractor progress claims.
- Track productivity metrics (spans per day, sagging rates) and report constraints or delays.
- Support short-term look-ahead planning, daily reporting, and weekly progress updates.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural, or Construction Engineering.
- 3- 8 years' experience on high-voltage transmission projects.
- Exposure to conductor stringing, sagging, or transmission construction activities preferred.
- Strong understanding of WHS requirements and working-at-height / lifting environments.
- Good coordination, reporting, and field-based problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in regional and remote construction environments.
