THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity to join a highly collaborative and supportive teaching environment at the Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC) as a Special Education Teacher.

In contributing to the learning and development of primary aged students with special learning needs, you will work closely with Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Sports Coaches and Classroom Assistants in designing, delivering and assessing educational programs.

Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC) is an Independent School based at Macquarie University providing high quality education to primary students with mild to moderate intellectual disability, autism and language difficulties across Kindergarten to Year 6. MUSEC School offers both academic and life skills programs. We have small classes, personalised education programs and well qualified staff. We are known for our inclusivity, expertise, academic focus and dedication to our students and school community.

Essential Criteria

Approved teaching qualification and experience in teaching primary curriculum,
Current NESA Teacher Accreditation level,
Demonstrated ability to deliver engaging and differentiated lessons for diverse learners with complex learning needs,
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills,
Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the demonstrated ability to train and supervise Classroom Assistants and coordinate classroom programs effectively,
Sound technology skills including the use of Interactive Whiteboards and iPads and the ability to integrate technology into the curriculum, and
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member with Allied Health professionals, teachers, families and external agencies to coordinate integrated, student-centred approaches to learning and wellbeing.

Desirable Criteria

Experience in working with students with a range of disabilities,
Experience and/or qualifications in Special Education.
