The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is seeking a Assistant Chief Radiographer with demonstrated experience across multiple imaging modalities and proven leadership capability. The successful applicant will support clinical service delivery while overseeing mandatory training, staff development, and undergraduate education programs.

You will demonstrate strong equipment management skills and the ability to manage staff rostering in a financially responsible manner, ensuring efficient service delivery. A commitment to maintaining a safe and high-quality environment for staff, patients, and families is essential.

What you'll be doing

1. Working in conjunction with the Chief MRS the Assistant Chief MRS is responsible for the operational management of staff within all modalities. Under the direction of the Chief MRS and Medical Imaging Directors they are accountable for the maintenance of high standards of imaging throughout the department and associated satellite departments. The Assistant Chief MRS will maintain an up-to-date knowledge of clinical service delivery whilst preserving professional competency standards and ethics. The Radiographer will complete all mandatory training and attend any lectures, tutorials, programs and development activities that management deems necessary. The incumbent will have a leadership role in progressing an integrated continuing professional development and quality program relevant to their professional requirements and recognised Accreditation programs.

2. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of clinical service delivery whilst overseeing mandatory training, staff and undergraduate education and training.

3. In conjunction with the chief MRS be responsible for preventative maintenance scheduling, breakdowns and repairs. This will incorporate equipment compliance, licencing and accreditation requirements.

4. To be responsible for coordinating staff and equipment to ensure the department operates under maximum efficiency and throughput 24 hours/ 7 days a week in a financially responsible manner inclusive of maintaining staff rosters (including allocation of annual leave) and payroll systems daily.

5. Provide a safe working environment and safe working practices for all staff in the department, including identify, analyse, evaluate and document all risks (e.g.: WHS, Corporate, Clinical, Financial, Legal, Technology) relevant to the department. Review and implement management strategies for all areas of concern, escalate to Chief MRS and or Medical Imaging Directors.

6. Maintain timely and efficient purchase orders for consumables as required by modalities, abiding by the Code of Conduct to ensure probity.

Degree in Medical adiation Science or equivalent. EPA Radiation licence. AHPRA registration

Evidence of strong and empowering leadership skills inclusive of motivation and advocacy with sound ability in conflict resolution and staff performance management with flexible empathic and perceptive interpersonal and staff liaison skills.

Possess detailed knowledge of a wide range of imaging modalities, equipment maintenance, picture archiving and communications systems, Policy and procedures in Radiology including proven ability to instruct Radiographers and other health workers in techniques appropriate to the equipment being used and the procedures being performed in the Radiology Department

Computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications, Incident Management System, Human Resource & Financial management applications, computerised rostering systems and Radiology Information Systems.

Ability to organise workload to ensure staff and equipment are utilised efficiently and effectively using demonstrated effective communication skills both verbal and written. Demonstrated experience in staff rostering and floor manager responsibilities.

Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with team building expertise and negotiation skills as well as the ability and experience in applying change management strategies.

Experience implementing RANZCR Accreditation guidelines, DIAS and ACHS accreditation standards into routine departmental practices.

Strong appreciation for applying imaging strategies to children and young people and the families.
