## Production / Plant Engineer
## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Production or Plant Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in the efficient operation of our manufacturing and industrial plant facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the design, construction, modification, and ongoing maintenance of plant equipment, machinery, and systems. This role suits a detail-oriented engineering professional with a strong background in production environments who thrives on optimising performance, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality across all plant operations.
## Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed technical specifications for the manufacture of equipment and systems, determining appropriate materials, capacities, piping configurations, material flows, and plant layouts to support efficient production outcomes
- Plan, organise, and oversee project labour resources, coordinating the timely delivery and installation of materials, plant, and equipment to keep projects on schedule and within budget
- Establish and enforce standards and policies for installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection, and maintenance in accordance with engineering principles and relevant safety regulations
- Conduct regular inspections of plant infrastructure, machinery, and systems to assess performance, identify inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions to ensure optimum operation is maintained at all times
- Direct and coordinate the maintenance of plant buildings, utilities, and equipment, ensuring all assets are maintained to a high standard and that maintenance schedules are planned and adhered to
- Collaborate with design, operations, and maintenance teams to evaluate requirements for new equipment designs, structural modifications, and facility surveys, translating operational needs into practical engineering solutions
- Monitor and analyse production processes and equipment performance data, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and lower operational costs through process optimisation and engineering improvements
- Lead and support root cause analysis investigations into equipment failures, production stoppages, or safety incidents, implementing sustainable corrective and preventive actions
- Manage capital improvement projects from scoping and design through to commissioning, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, timelines, and budgetary requirements
- Liaise with external contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to ensure that all plant engineering activities meet contractual, legislative, and industry compliance requirements
- Contribute to the development and review of safe work procedures, risk assessments, and engineering documentation in line with workplace health and safety obligations
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related engineering discipline
- Proven experience in a production, plant, or manufacturing engineering role within an industrial or heavy industry environment
- Strong knowledge of plant systems, equipment maintenance practices, and production process optimisation
- Demonstrated experience developing engineering specifications, maintenance plans, and technical documentation
- Solid understanding of quality management systems, inspection protocols, and testing methodologies
- Working knowledge of relevant Australian safety standards, codes of practice, and legislative requirements (e.g. WHS Act)
- Proficiency in engineering design and project management tools, including CAD software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data and drive evidence-based decisions
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to manage competing priorities, lead projects end-to-end, and deliver results in a fast-paced production environment
## Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualifications or professional development in project management, asset management, or a related engineering discipline
- Membership with Engineers Australia or an equivalent professional engineering body
- Certification or demonstrated experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP PM, Maximo, or equivalent platforms
- Familiarity with process safety management, HAZOP studies, or similar risk assessment frameworks
- Experience working within regulated industries such as food and beverage, mining, oil and gas, or pharmaceutical manufacturing
