About Us

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is an exceptional environment to advance your career while enhancing your skills and expertise. The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres that provide a range of services for children, young people and their families, adults, older people and their carers. Our services range from health promotion, prevention and early detection through to assessment, treatment and continuing care. Our staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non-government agencies and other organisations to provide care across our centres, in people’s homes, other community venues as well as virtual care (telehealth)

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is seeking a motivated Speech Pathologist (Level 1/ to join the Child and Family Health team. This permanent full-time role offers the opportunity to support children and families while building your skills in a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.

The NBMLHD Child and Family Health (CFH) Speech Pathology team provides services for children under eight years old across the Penrith, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury Local Government Areas using a primary health care approach, including assessment, intervention, health promotion and education to individual clients and community groups.

The Speech Pathology Team works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including occupational therapy, counselling and nursing services. In this role, you will deliver family centred, evidence based care and work collaboratively to support early intervention outcomes.

What you will bring to the role

Bachelor’s or post graduate degree in speech pathology which provides eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer
Demonstrated experience in providing paediatric Speech Pathology services. Demonstrated experience in speech and language interventions and knowledge of fluency and feeding interventions, as well as the ability to work in partnership with families to provide effective interventions for children, within a limited session model.
Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively with families from different psychosocial, socioeconomic and/or culturally diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated understanding of the indicators of child protection issues and mandatory reporting guidelines and responsibilities.
Excellent spoken, written and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated experience in applying these skills in a multidisciplinary team environment within a community setting
Knowledge and commitment to evidence-based practice and primary health care principles. As well as demonstrated application of how these are incorporated into your professional work.
Evidence of commitment to professional development and quality improvement.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use information technology systems within a variety of applications (e.g. Cerner, Outlook, MS Teams, MS apps) and a commitment to undertake training in electronic health record systems as required.
Current Driver's Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel. This may include driving long distances across the Local Health District.
