## Architectural, Building and Surveying Technician (NEC)
## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Architectural, Building and Surveying Technician to provide essential technical support across construction, surveying, and architectural projects. This role plays a vital part in ensuring projects are delivered to specification, on time, and in compliance with relevant codes and standards. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in a technical support capacity, with the ability to work collaboratively alongside Construction Managers, Architects, and Surveyors. A methodical mindset, strong spatial awareness, and a commitment to accuracy are key attributes for success in this position.
## Key Responsibilities
- Assist Construction Managers, Architects, and Surveyors with the planning, coordination, and organisation of projects from inception through to completion
- Interpret and apply architectural plans, building regulations, codes of practice, and industry standards to support compliant project delivery
- Prepare preliminary sketches, working drawings, and detailed specifications to communicate design intent and construction requirements clearly
- Produce, edit, and revise plans, maps, charts, and technical drawings using CAD and other industry-relevant software, ensuring accuracy and version control throughout
- Coordinate works programmes and monitor scheduling milestones, liaising with site teams to keep projects on track
- Inspect construction work, materials, and methods on site to verify compliance with approved specifications, relevant standards, and regulatory requirements
- Calculate project costs and estimate time scales for work packages, contributing to budget planning and resource allocation
- Collect field data using surveying instruments and photogrammetric equipment, and process findings to support accurate project documentation
- Perform routine technical computations, plot preliminary survey data, and prepare maps and plans for review by senior professionals
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive project records, reports, and documentation to support quality assurance and audit processes
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies as required, providing technical input and ensuring clear communication across all stakeholders
- Support the identification and resolution of on-site technical issues, escalating matters appropriately and contributing to practical problem-solving
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certificate IV, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma in Building and Construction, Architectural Technology, Surveying, or a related discipline — or equivalent practical experience
- Demonstrated experience in a technical support role within the construction, architecture, or surveying industry
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, or similar) and the ability to produce and interpret technical drawings to a high standard
- Sound understanding of Australian building codes, standards, and relevant legislative requirements, including the National Construction Code (NCC)
- Strong numerical aptitude with the ability to perform cost calculations, quantity take-offs, and time estimates accurately
- Experience using surveying equipment and an understanding of data collection, processing, and plotting methodologies
- Excellent organisational skills with the capacity to manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills for reporting, documentation, and stakeholder engagement
- High attention to detail and a disciplined approach to quality assurance and compliance
## Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Surveying, or a related field
- Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) platforms and 3D modelling workflows
- Familiarity with photogrammetric equipment and drone survey technologies
- Membership with, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional body such as the Australian Institute of Building (AIB), Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI), or the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA)
- Experience working across multiple project types including residential, commercial, or civil construction
- Exposure to project management tools and construction scheduling software
