About the role and team
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Associate to join our General Insurance team based in Melbourne. You will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of insurance matters with a focus on property recovery and personal injury matters.
Our national General Insurance practice advises on and manages litigated claims for a number of major insurers, reinsurers and corporates, and on behalf of significant clients in a wide variety of industries. We sit on the legal panels of Australia’s top general insurers, as well as a number of other local and international insurers.
You will be responsible for and have carriage of your own files, with appropriate supervision from our supportive and industry leading partners.
You will be responsible for:
- client interaction and strategy;
- working with a team of lawyers;
- reviewing documents and preparing evidence;
- drafting correspondence to the Court and third parties;
- conferencing with witnesses and preparing witness statements;
- liaising with experts;
- preparing briefs for counsel;
- drafting Court documents and attendance at Court;
- drafting client advices; and
- drafting letters of instruction to experts.
About you
You will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- minimum of five years of post-admission experience in defendant insurance law;
- experience managing property recovery and personal injury claims;
- experience in advising on indemnity;
- experience in the day-to-day management of files and in running matters through court proceedings;
- experience supervising, mentoring and delegating to junior lawyers or paralegals;
- clear, concise legal writing skills;
- a team player with the ability to also work autonomously; and
- motivated and eager to build a legal career in the insurance sector.
