The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. The Digital and Government Services Group
Digital and Government Services is responsible for driving digital transformation across government, making it easier for business, communities and citizens to connect with government.

Digital and Government Services guides and supports the public service to work in more collaborative and agile ways to better serve the people of Victoria.

The group is responsible for digital strategy (including digital identity), transformation, design and innovation, cyber security, data and digital resilience, and shared government IT services.

About the Role
As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will work closely with other members of the Cyber Services Branch to support the delivery and improvement of cyber security services across the Whole of Victorian Government (WoVG). These services include vulnerability management and attack surface management. The team plays a critical role in coordinating service-related activities, responding to stakeholder needs, and ensuring cyber services align with broader divisional objectives.

You will work with automation platforms and other technologies and engage multiple stakeholders both inside the division and across the Victorian Government.

This role will suit someone who loves solving problems and working in a team of technical specialists who they can learn from and support. The ideal candidate will have experience in scripting and enhancing and maintaining technology or cyber security platforms.

Key Accountabilities

Monitor and respond to cyber security events and alerts, undertaking investigation and escalation in line with established procedures.
Support the automation of processes to enable the work of the division.
Perform vulnerability assessments and support remediation activities to reduce cyber risk.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures and reports to support operational effectiveness, compliance and audit requirements.
Provide security advice to internal stakeholders to support secure project and operational outcomes.
Contribute to continuous improvement of cyber security processes, monitoring capability and technical controls.
Undertake quality assurance and testing activities to ensure systems and changes are fit for purpose, meet requirements, and defects are identified, documented and resolved in a timely manner.
Other duties as directed that are not listed in the position description, but which are consistent with a position of this grade and skills requirement.

Mandatory Requirements

The ability to obtain a NEGATIVE VETTING 1 security clearance within 12 months of commencing employment.

This role is a fixed term position available until 3 May 2027. This position is only open to applicants with relevant rights to work in Australia.
