The Opportunity
General Excavators is seeking a motivated and experienced Civil Engineer or Civil Engineering Technician to join our growing team. This is a full-time, permanent position supporting the planning, coordination, supervision, and delivery of civil construction and earthmoving projects across the Northern Territory.
The successful candidate will work closely with management, site supervisors, plant operators, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and delivery of civil construction, excavation, earthworks, drainage, roadworks, and site infrastructure projects.
- Prepare, review, interpret, and assist with civil engineering drawings, plans, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Provide technical and engineering support to construction and earthmoving operations.
- Conduct site inspections, measurements, surveys, quality assurance checks, and construction compliance inspections.
- Monitor project progress and assist in ensuring works are completed according to approved plans, specifications, budgets, and schedules.
- Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, plant operators, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
- Identify construction and site issues and provide practical technical solutions.
- Assist with quantities, material requirements, site measurements, and project cost monitoring.
- Monitor compliance with WHS requirements, environmental obligations, Australian Standards, and company procedures.
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of project documentation, including progress reports, risk assessments, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), inspection records, and other technical reports.
- Support continuous improvement in project delivery, safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
Skills & Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline.
- Relevant experience in civil construction, earthworks, excavation, infrastructure, site engineering, or technical project support.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with site and project teams.
- Willingness and ability to undertake site-based and hands-on field engineering duties.
- Knowledge of Australian construction standards, WHS requirements, quality assurance procedures, and civil construction practices is highly regarded.
- Current Australian driver's licence is desirable.
