As a Clinical Midwifery Consultant, you will provide expert guidance in complex maternity care, lead the development of coordinated care pathways, and champion innovative clinical practices. You’ll support and empower midwives and multidisciplinary teams through specialised education, contemporary clinical advice, and the delivery of complex care plans. Are You the Right Fit?
You’ll thrive in this role if you are an experienced and highly skilled midwife who brings both clinical excellence and compassionate leadership to complex maternity care. You’ll be someone with strong foundations—holding current AHPRA registration, postgraduate midwifery qualifications, significant experience in the specialty, and confidence navigating the demands of community based work (including a current NSW driver’s licence).

You’re the right fit if you excel in supporting women with complex psychosocial needs or high risk pregnancies, and if you can approach these situations with sensitivity, advanced clinical judgement, and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes. You will bring a collaborative mindset, strong understanding of midwifery group practice models of care, leading evidence based practice while mentoring and supporting colleagues across the multidisciplinary team.You enjoy working in dynamic environments, where navigating perinatal support systems, coordinating care, and advocating for women and families is central to what you do. Your professional toolkit includes demonstrated capability in quality improvement, research participation, and the development of innovative care approaches. Confident in your communication, education, and clinical leadership skills, you are also comfortable using digital tools and clinical databases to support safe, coordinated care.

Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Midwife with at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years fulltime equivalent experience in the specialty field of maternity care. Approved postgraduate midwifery qualifications relevant to the specialty field of Midwifery, or other such qualifications or experience deemed appropriate
Can you describe a complex case where you supported a woman experiencing significant psychosocial vulnerability and/or a high-risk pregnancy requiring complex care planning in the perinatal period? Please outline: Your assessment and care coordination approach. How you engaged and advocated for the woman and her family. The support services and stakeholders involved. How you navigated referrals and negotiated with partner agencies. The outcome for the woman and what you learned from the experience
Can you provide an example of a time when you led an initiative that improved maternity care practice, service delivery, education, or quality outcomes? Please describe: The issue or opportunity you identified. Your role in planning, implementing and evaluating the initiative. How you used evidence, data, research or quality improvement methodologies. How you provided education, mentoring, supervision or clinical leadership to staff. The results achieved and how you used technology or data systems to support the work.
Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P. Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
