Full Job Description

Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.

Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer , which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence . Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.

We currently have a short-term opportunity for a Project Manager in Canberra or Melbourne to work on Land projects .

What You’ll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

Support end‑to‑end delivery of multiple LAND 4140 work packages , maintaining integrated schedules, managing critical‑path risks and coordinating across acquisition, engineering, cyber, safety, testing and sustainment.

Lead planning, controls and governance activities , developing PM artefacts, managing risks, costs and reporting, and preparing executive‑ready inputs for Gate Reviews and senior submissions.

Coordinate complex technical integration , including SATCOM, BTN, TCN and platform interfaces, and oversee user evaluations, AT&E/OT&E and issue resolution with engineering, test and ILS teams.

Engage effectively with Defence stakeholders , including Army HQ, LC4, LC4S sustainment groups and industry partners, navigating complex environments and driving alignment.

Manage through‑life support and sustainment transition , ensuring FIC readiness, defining support arrangements with CA31, and coordinating CDT resources and risks for transition to IIS.

What You’ll Bring

Strong project management capability , with current Defence‑relevant experience and the ability to translate complex technical detail into actionable project plans.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management , working effectively with Defence, CASG, industry partners and diverse technical teams

Recognised project management qualifications (AIPM, PMI, PRINCE2) and familiarity with ASDEFCON, ILS frameworks and Defence certification/cyber‑worthiness processes.

Ability to operate in complex, uncertain environments , maintaining disciplined project controls while managing concurrent, interdependent work packages.

Defence‑aligned background , ideally with CASG or Army acquisition experience and understanding of FIC, sustainment and Defence technical domains (e.g., SATCOM, deployable networks, C4 systems).

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain an AGSVA Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
