Main duties and responsibilities
Perform clinical duties within required level of clinical competency, according to best available evidence. Assist doctors with clinical procedures whilst offering patient support and reassurance. Duties include patient triage, immunisations and other injections, wound management, chronic disease management, ECG’s and the collection of pathology samples. Clinical documentation must be succinct, pertinent and maintained to high standard in line with regulatory standards at all times.
Assist with data management, diagnostic services, networking with other providers, planning and management of patient care and patient advocacy. Phone patients with test results as directed by medical staff.

Improvement of Patient Health Outcomes
Conduct preventative/screening procedures, assist with patient education and community health promotion activities. Co-ordinate patient recall and outreach programs. GP management plans and team care arrangements.
Escort patients home and provide home/hospital visits as required for monitoring & support, including antenatal and post-natal care and health assessments.
Ensure sterilisation and maintenance of clinical equipment. Maintain stocks of clinical supplies, including weekly stocktake, correct storage (such as refrigeration), removal of out of date stock and assist Practice Manager with ordering supplies. Provide input in purchasing relevant clinical equipment and supplies.
Maintain awareness of current and new legislation to ensure business is complying with all statutory and regulatory obligations including infection control, sterilisation, hazardous materials and safe handling/disposal of medical waste, records management, WH&S and accreditation. Ensure relevant personnel are kept informed and changes to systems / procedures are followed.
Act within the practice and nursing code of ethics and appropriate level of clinical competence at all times. Maintain awareness of current evidence and research on clinical practices and inform/educate other practice staff when required. Provide feedback to management team on any systems / processes that require updating to improve operational efficiency or comply with changes regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Appropriate tertiary qualification and current AHPRA Registration is essential
Experience
- Minimum of one year nursing experience, preferably in a community-based role is essential
- Experience in infection control, CPR and emergency resuscitation techniques, use of equipment and drugs is essential
- Experience of delivering immunisation schedules, diabetes management, asthma management, enhanced primary care items is highly regarded
- Experience with Best Practice software, Windows and Microsoft office suite is also highly regarded
