Details: Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Manager, Facilities to lead the strategic and operational delivery of facilities management services across CIT’s property portfolio. We are looking to fill a temporary position within the Facilities team and to build a Merit Pool for future expected temporary vacancies across the branch.
What do we want?
CIT is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified facilities management professional to fill the position of Senior Manager, Facilities. This is a key leadership role responsible for supporting the delivery of safe, compliant and fit-for-purpose campuses that enable high-quality teaching, learning and business operations across CIT.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Facilities, the Senior Manager provides strategic and operational leadership across CIT’s property portfolio, including facilities operations, infrastructure planning, asset lifecycle and property management, planned and reactive maintenance, minor capital works, contractor and procurement management, work health and safety, budgeting, reporting, governance and continuous improvement.
We are looking for a practical and solutions-focused facilities leader who can operate confidently in a complex, multi-campus environment. The successful applicant will provide high-level advice to senior executives, manage competing strategic and operational priorities, lead internal teams and service providers, and support the delivery of key facilities strategies and programs, including infrastructure planning and asset renewal activities.
What will you do?
As the Senior Manager, Facilities, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across CIT’s facilities portfolio and support the Senior Director, Facilities in delivering safe, effective, customer-focused and compliant facilities services across CIT campuses. You will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of facilities management services across CIT’s property portfolio, including planned and reactive maintenance, minor capital upgrades, asset management activities and campus operations.
You will contribute to the development and implementation of whole-of-organisation facilities strategies, including infrastructure and asset renewal planning, while managing contractors, suppliers and service providers to ensure safe, timely, compliant and value-for-money service delivery. The role will also involve managing budgets, forecasts and financial performance associated with facilities operations, and supporting governance, risk management, compliance reporting and organisational performance requirements.
A key part of the role will be leading maintenance, technical and operational staff, including building team capability, supporting performance and fostering a positive, accountable and customer-focused team culture. You will ensure facilities activities are delivered in accordance with work health and safety obligations, procurement requirements, contract management principles, relevant standards, policies and procedures.
You will also be responsible for building and maintaining effective relationships with internal stakeholders, ACT Government agencies, contractors, suppliers and campus users. The role requires the preparation of high-quality advice, briefs, reports and correspondence for the Senior Director, Facilities and senior executives, as well as representing the Facilities area in internal and external forums as required. You will be expected to drive continuous improvement and innovation across facilities services, systems and operational practices to support safe, reliable and fit-for-purpose campus environments.
What do I need?
To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate strong facilities management experience, sound technical knowledge and the ability to lead complex operational services in a dynamic, multi-campus environment.
You will have proven experience delivering planned and reactive facilities and maintenance services, minor capital works and asset-related activities through internal teams, trade staff and contractors. You will also bring a strong understanding of facilities management, capital works, asset lifecycle management, work health and safety, procurement, contract management and customer-focused service delivery.
The role requires a practical and solutions-focused leader who can interpret complex information, provide timely and sound advice, manage competing priorities and make informed decisions in accordance with relevant legislation, standards, policies and governance frameworks. Knowledge of the National Construction Code, relevant Codes of Practice and Australian Standards as they relate to facilities management, repairs and maintenance will be highly regarded.
You will have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build productive relationships, negotiate effectively and work with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. You will also demonstrate strong people leadership capability, including the ability to create an inclusive, high-performing and accountable team environment, support performance, motivate staff and build capability through professional development, skills uplift and continuous improvement.

The successful applicant will be required to:

Hold a current driver licence, Class C.

Hold an associate diploma from an Australian technical and further education institution or equivalent; or have relevant experience, training or accreditation to perform duties relevant to facilities, campus and general estate management.
The following are highly desirable:

Qualifications in infrastructure/project management/trade qualification and/or minimum 5 years’ experience in Facilities Management.

Fire Warden and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain.

Possession of a Construction Induction (White Card), Asbestos Awareness and Silica Awareness training (or ability to obtain) are highly desirable.
Notes: This is a temporary position available for a period of three months with a possibility of extension up to six months. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill temporary vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
