G’day! You’ve found an opportunity that could define your next chapter.
The Mission — Why This Program, Why Now?
You’re joining at the defining moment of one of the most significant technology programs Australia has ever undertaken.
The architectural decisions being made now — how we structure networking, implement security controls, and automate at scale — will shape how Australia’s national security community operates for the next decade. You won’t be inheriting someone else’s design choices. You’ll be making them.
Your Role — The Guardian of AWS Physical Infrastructure
Imagine being the first line of defence for some of the most critical cloud infrastructure on the planet. As an AWS Incident Response Team (IRT) Analyst within the Physical Security Operations Centre (PSOC), you’ll be the vigilant eyes and decisive mind protecting the physical backbone of services that hundreds of thousands of businesses across 190 countries depend on every single day.
This isn’t passive monitoring — this is active, intelligent security operations where your judgment directly safeguards national security assets. You’ll respond to physical security events in real time, coordinate contracted guard forces, administer access control systems, and gather intelligence that keeps our people, operations, and infrastructure safe across the region.
Every shift brings new challenges. Every decision you make matters. And every improvement you identify raises the security bar for an organisation that refuses to stand still.
Why This Team, Why Now?
You’re joining a developing team of physical security professionals who are building something extraordinary. The PSOC is where operational excellence meets national purpose — where your customer service instincts, your communication skills, and your security expertise converge to protect what matters most. Whether your background is in security operations centres, dispatch, military, or law enforcement, your experience has prepared you for this moment.
This is where careers accelerate, where diverse paths are celebrated, and where the appetite to continuously improve isn’t just welcomed — it’s essential.

Key job responsibilities
You’ll be the operational heartbeat of the AWS Physical Security Operations Centre — the person who turns protocols into protection and intelligence into action.
Protecting Critical Infrastructure in Real Time
Your core mission is incident response. When physical security events threaten AWS infrastructure, associates, or operations, you’re the one who assesses, escalates, and resolves. You’ll monitor physical access control systems with precision, administer access permissions, and ensure only authorised personnel move through our most sensitive spaces.
The Security Ecosystem
You’ll oversee contracted guard forces across the region, ensuring they operate to AWS standards. Your intelligence gathering will feed directly into program-wide notifications that keep teams informed and prepared. When something changes in the threat landscape, you’ll be the one connecting the dots and distributing critical information.
Building the Playbook
You won’t just follow Standard Operating Procedures — you’ll develop them. Your frontline experience will shape how the PSOC operates, creating frameworks that future team members will rely on to protect AWS assets.
Keeping Operations Moving
From triaging trouble tickets to managing internal and external communications, you’ll be the connective tissue between security operations and the broader AWS organisation. You’ll handle incoming queries with professionalism, provide technical support to internal stakeholders, and ensure nothing falls through the cracks.
Every interaction is an opportunity to demonstrate the customer obsession that defines Amazon — and every process you improve raises the bar for the entire program.

A day in the life
Your day begins with a handover that immediately puts you in the picture — active incidents, ongoing monitoring priorities, and intelligence updates from the previous shift. You settle into the PSOC knowing that today, like every day, your vigilance protects critical national infrastructure.
Morning: Eyes On, Systems Active
You scan physical access control systems, reviewing overnight access logs and flagging anomalies. A contractor’s badge triggers an alert — you verify credentials, cross-reference the access request, and resolve it within minutes. Seamless. You check in with the contracted guard force at multiple sites, confirming shift coverage and addressing a scheduling gap before it becomes a vulnerability.
Midday: Intelligence and Communication
An intelligence report lands requiring your analysis. You assess the relevance to AWS operations, draft a program-wide notification, and distribute it to stakeholders who need to act. Between intelligence tasks, you’re managing the inbox — responding to access requests, fielding queries from internal teams, and updating trouble tickets with precision.
Afternoon: Incident Response in Action
An alarm triggers. Your training kicks in — you follow established procedures, coordinate with on-site security, gather information rapidly, and document everything in real time. The incident resolves cleanly because you were prepared, decisive, and thorough. You update the incident report and identify a process improvement that could shave minutes off future response times.
End of Shift: Raising the Bar
Before handover, you draft a recommendation for a new SOP based on today’s observations. You brief the incoming team with clarity and confidence, knowing that your contributions today made the operation stronger than yesterday.
