## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Engineering Technician to join our team in a hands-on technical role supporting Electrical Engineers and Engineering Technologists across a range of projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting electrical system tests, preparing technical documentation, and contributing to cost estimation and compliance activities. This role suits a motivated individual with a strong foundation in electrical systems, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering environment.
## Key Responsibilities
- Collect and analyse field and laboratory data, perform technical calculations, and present findings through detailed graphs, charts, and tabulations to support engineering decision-making.
- Carry out testing and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment, ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with Australian standards, safety requirements, and relevant regulations.
- Inspect and evaluate electrical designs, assemblies, and completed installations to verify compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Assemble, install, modify, test, and repair electrical equipment and installations, ensuring all work conforms to safety regulations and operational specifications.
- Undertake electrical workshop functions including the assembly and installation of protection relay systems, metering devices, and indicating instruments.
- Estimate materials, quantities, and associated costs to assist in project planning, procurement, and budgeting activities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical records, reports, and documentation in support of engineering projects and audits.
- Assist engineers and technologists in research, experimentation, and development programmes, contributing practical technical input across project stages.
- Identify faults, troubleshoot electrical issues, and recommend corrective actions to minimise downtime and ensure continued system reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional project teams, contractors, and site personnel to coordinate electrical works safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to workplace health and safety policies at all times, actively contributing to a culture of safe work practices on site and in the workshop.
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certificate III or Certificate IV in Electrotechnology (Electrician), or a Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification recognised in Australia.
- Current and valid Electrical Licence or Electrical Worker Licence appropriate to the relevant state or territory.
- Demonstrated experience in electrical testing, installation, maintenance, and fault-finding within an engineering or industrial environment.
- Solid understanding of Australian wiring rules (AS/NZS 3000) and relevant electrical codes, standards, and safety legislation.
- Proficiency in interpreting electrical schematics, technical drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Competence in the use of test and measurement equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power quality analysers.
- Strong numeracy skills with the ability to perform accurate technical calculations and cost estimations.
- High attention to detail with a methodical approach to documentation, data recording, and reporting.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with engineers, tradespeople, and clients.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace health, safety, and environmental standards.
## Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Experience working with protection relay systems, metering equipment, or power distribution infrastructure.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), or building management systems (BMS).
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical or similar engineering design software.
- White Card (Construction Induction Training) and relevant site safety certifications.
- First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Previous experience in mining, utilities, construction, or infrastructure sectors will be highly regarded.
