Your Role

As a part-time General Surgeon, Orthopaedic Surgeon, or Psychologist in the Army Reserve, you’ll use your skills and degree in a range of different environments on Army bases as well as out in the field on exercises and deployments around Australia and overseas.

Work in surgical teams using your medical expertise to provide clinical care in hospital or field environments as a General Surgeon or Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Use your understanding of human behaviour in mental health settings, recruitment selection and organisational systems as a Psychologist.

Boost your Income

On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn from $322 to $857 per day tax-free, depending on your role:

General Surgeon: $857 per day

Orthopaedic Surgeon: $857 per day

Psychologist: $322 per day

Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.

Eligibility:
For this role, you must:

Be at least 17 at the time of enlistment and an Australian Citizen.
If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details
Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare.
Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance.

For the specific roles, you must:

General Surgeon: Be fully qualified and unconditionally registered as a General Surgeon with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in a state or territory of Australia.
Orthopaedic Surgeon: Be fully qualified and unconditionally registered as an Orthopaedic Surgeon with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in a state or territory of Australia.
Psychologist: Be registered as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and currently working as a Psychologist with a civilian employer.
