We have 6 community libraries across our local government area: Blacktown, Mount Druitt, Stanhope Gardens, Riverstone, Lalor Park, and Marsden Park Temporary Library. We also have a popular mobile library service.

About the opportunity

This is an exciting permanent, part-time opportunity for a Library Technician, which includes a weekend shift.

You will be part of a friendly, customer-focused team dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where all visitors feel comfortable and supported.

In this role, you will deliver great customer experiences, assist customers in accessing a wide range of library services, and contribute to programs that bring the community together. You will also work closely with colleagues to ensure services run smoothly and that visitors receive consistent, high-quality support.

The successful applicant will:

Provide outstanding customer service
Deliver high quality community-focused programs
Work collaboratively with colleagues
Support customers in accessing the full range of library services.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

Library Technician Diploma, Associate Diploma or equivalent, as recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
Previous library experience
Demonstrated strong commitment to a customer focused service
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and independently
Well-developed problem-solving skills
Relevant computer skills
Current class C driver’s licence
Working with Children Check number.

Desirable:

First aid certification
Ability to speak a community language.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

Entry level for this position starts at $1,362.15 per week, pro rata
Penalty rates apply for weekend shifts
17.5-hour working week
Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 12% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
