Primary objective
The paediatric infectious diseases registrar will receive accredited core training in paediatric infectious diseases, based at
Royal Darwin Hospital, while contributing to clinical services including inpatient infectious diseases consultation, outpatient
clinics, hospital in the home, antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control. The position will also include
opportunities to participate in teaching, audit and research activities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Review of paediatric inpatients for whom infectious diseases consultation is requested
2. Outpatient review of paediatric patients in paediatric infectious diseases clinics
3. Regular review of patients admitted to hospital in the home
4. Participation in antimicrobial stewardship activities
5. Participation in infection prevention and control activities
6. Liaison with the Northern Territory Centre for Disease Control
7. Contribution to teaching, audit, quality assurance, guideline development and research activities
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken, in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
2. Successful completion of paediatric examinations through RACP or equivalent
3. Current enrolment as an advanced trainee in general paediatrics and/or paediatric infectious diseases with RACP
4. Demonstrated commitment to improving Indigenous child health in Australia
5. Demonstrated clinical experience and knowledge in paediatric infectious diseases
Desirable
1. Previous experience working at Royal Darwin Hospital, or in other clinical settings in the Northern Territory
2. Experience in quality improvement activities and research relevant to paediatrics and/or infectious diseases
3. Demonstrated interest and commitment to improving child health in resource limited settings globally
4. Post graduate qualifications in paediatrics, public health, infectious diseases or research related fields
5. Dual training in general paediatrics and paediatric infectious diseases
