The role
We’re looking for an Economic Analyst to join our Finance Advisory and Evaluation team within Corporate Services at the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
This is an opportunity to contribute to work that matters, helping shape decisions that impact communities across NSW. You’ll be part of a supportive, collaborative team that values different perspectives, continuous learning, and sharing knowledge.
In this role, you’ll apply your skills to conduct economic evaluations, cost-benefit analyses and strategic assessments that inform government policy, programs and investments. Your work will help ensure decisions are fair, well-informed and deliver positive outcomes for people across the state.
You’ll work alongside a wide range of teams, including colleagues across the department, senior leaders, NSW Treasury and other NSW government stakeholders. Together, you’ll turn data and evidence into insights that guide better outcomes for communities.

Economic Analyst
We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. You might bring:
- Strong analytical thinking and an understanding of economic principles, with experience in areas such as cost-benefit analysis, policy or program evaluation
- The ability to communicate ideas clearly and respectfully with different audiences, from technical colleagues to senior leaders
- Experience working with data (quantitative or qualitative) and using it to inform clear, practical recommendations
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- A collaborative approach and the ability to build relationships across teams and organisations
- Familiarity with government frameworks (such as the NSW Government Investment Framework) is helpful but not essential
Essential requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in economics, data analytics or similar discipline and/or equivalent experience in economic analysis, research and evaluation or investment planning in a public policy context.
