WHAT DO WE WANT?
CIT is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified facilities management professional to fill the position of Facilities Manager within CIT Facilities. The role provides leadership and coordination of day‑to‑day facilities operations across CIT Bruce / Woden or assigned campus, including reactive and planned maintenance, security and access control, janitorial services, contractor supervision, and compliance with legislative, work health and safety, building code, and emergency management requirements.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
As a member of the CIT Facilities team, you will provide operational leadership to ensure the safe, secure and efficient functioning of CIT Bruce/ Woden campus. Reporting to the Operations Managers, Facilities, you will manage and coordinate campus‑based facilities operations, leading a small Facilities, Estates and Trades team and contractors to deliver high‑quality, customer‑focused services.
You will oversee the day‑to‑day delivery of reactive, planned and preventative maintenance, grounds and building services, security and access control, and minor works across an assigned campus. This includes monitoring and responding to facilities service requests, undertaking regular campus inspections, coordinating contractor activities, and proactively addressing maintenance, safety and compliance issues to minimise disruption and operational risk.
The role will ensure compliance with legislative requirements, Work Health and Safety obligations, building codes and Australian Standards, including performing the role of Chief Fire Warden and supporting emergency preparedness, response and evacuation activities. You will coordinate emergency responses as required and participate in on‑call rosters to maintain continuity of services.
In addition, you will contribute to asset renewal, defect management and commissioning activities, support the continuous improvement of facilities systems, processes and reporting, and collaborate closely with staff, students, contractors and stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant and well‑maintained learning environments aligned with CIT’s operational and strategic objectives.
WHAT DO I NEED?
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong technical and operational capability across campus facilities and building operations, supported by sound judgement, customer‑focused leadership and the ability to operate effectively within a complex organisational environment. You will demonstrate a well‑developed operational understanding of the National Construction Code, relevant Australian Standards, and core building systems, including fire safety systems, electrical services, HVAC, building management and control systems (BMCS) and sustainable building practices. This knowledge will enable you to manage compliance, maintenance, safety and asset performance effectively across campus environments.
The role requires demonstrated analytical, digital and systems capability, including experience using facilities management and safety platforms (such as FMI, Safety Culture, Sine or similar) and applying data to inform decision‑making, improve performance and proactively manage risk. You will have experience managing contractor performance, procurement processes and minor capital works, and be familiar with WHS audits, risk assessments, sustainability initiatives and compliance frameworks within a government or similarly complex organisation.
You will possess comprehensive knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation, environmental sustainability principles and ACT Government policy frameworks, and the ability to integrate these requirements into day‑to‑day operational decision‑making and service delivery. Strong people leadership capability is essential. You will have experience leading an operational facilities team with a customer‑centric leadership style, building effective relationships with staff, students, contractors and stakeholders, fostering an inclusive and accountable team culture, and delivering high‑quality facilities outcomes. The ability to manage competing priorities, respond to time‑critical issues, champion continuous improvement and drive operational efficiency is critical.
You will communicate clearly, respectfully and proactively, coordinating and guiding teams and stakeholders through strong collaboration, issue resolution and service‑oriented engagement. You will role model the ACT Public Service values and signature behaviours, CIT Values (Student‑Centric, Belonging, Connection, Excellence, Integrity and Wellbeing), the ACTPS Code of Conduct, and CIT’s workplace health, safety and behavioural frameworks.
