Maintenance Officer – Practical All‑Rounder (Facilities & Plant)
Victoria Police Forensic Services is seeking a hands‑on Maintenance Officer to support a secure laboratory environment in Macleod.
In this role, you will help ensure buildings, plant and critical systems operate safely and reliably, supporting forensic operations that underpin the administration of justice.
Overview of the role:
The purpose of the Facilities, Planning & Risk Unit is to ensure the Forensic Service Centre is a safe and secure workplace through the provision of a range of infrastructure support services, including minor building works, preventative maintenance programs and laboratory support services.
Reporting to the Facilities Services Manager, the Maintenance Officer is responsible for assisting the Facilities Services Unit in maintaining building, plant and equipment within the Forensic Services Centre.
Key Duties & Responsibilities include:

Utilise building and plant room maintenance and monitoring skills to deliver uninterrupted services to Forensic Services, Macleod.

Monitor preventive and corrective maintenance requirements of the Macleod site including pure water, air conditioning, generators, UPS, fire systems and treated water etc.

Preparation and updating of maintenance schedules for the Macleod site, providing follow up on commitments made to stake holders or suppliers.

Proactively monitor the operation of mechanical plant room equipment.

Maintain and/or coordinate test and tagging currency of all site and laboratory equipment.

Proactively undertake minor facility maintenance, gardening and removalist tasks as required.

Assess maintenance issues to determine contractor services required to repair.

Escort and oversee servicing or repairs performed by external contractors.

Arrange for the provision of estimates or quotations in accordance with procurement policy.

Assist with receipt of Stores deliveries and distribution to work units.

Ensure Worksafe and OHS regulations and guidelines are adhered to in respect to safe operation of plant room and facility equipment with regard to the safety of personnel.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
-
Ability to perform general building maintenance duties.
-
Ability to perform physical tasks such as manual handling, lifting, gardening.

Ability to obtain a test and tag certification.
-
A current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for a White Class Driver Authority within three (3) months.

Ongoing VPS-2 position available.

Position is located at 31 Forensic Drive Macleod.

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only).
