Are you a civil engineer with an interest in infrastructure asset management — or a recent graduate looking to build your career in local government? Banyule City Council is seeking an Assets & Infrastructure Engineer to help plan, manage and improve the infrastructure that supports our community every day. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands‑on experience across the full asset lifecycle, working with roads, footpaths, drainage, buildings, open space and more.

About the Role

As part of Council’s Asset Management team, you will play a key role in collecting and analysing asset data, undertaking condition audits, and developing short‑ and long‑term renewal and capital works programs. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure Council’s infrastructure assets are well‑planned, well‑maintained and sustainable.

This role is well suited to a graduate engineer looking to develop practical asset management experience, or an experienced engineer wanting to grow their skills within a supportive local government environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

Undertake across infrastructure assets including roads, footpaths, kerb and channel, car parks, drainage, buildings and open space
Maintain and update Council’s Asset Management Systems, including asset registers and condition data
Prepare short‑term and long‑term renewal programs and contribute to Council’s Capital Works Program
Assist in implementing Council’s Asset Management Policy, Strategy and Asset Management Plans
Support asset valuations and reporting requirements
Respond to infrastructure‑related customer requests, including site inspections and recommendations
Contribute to strategic asset planning documents and forward works programs

About you

You’re analytical, organised and keen to understand how infrastructure assets are managed across their lifecycle. You enjoy working with data, getting out on site, and collaborating with others to achieve practical outcomes for the community. You will bring:

A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering
Interest or experience in infrastructure asset management (local government experience desirable but not essential)
Experience or exposure to condition assessments, asset registers or asset management systems
Strong analytical, report‑writing and communication skills
Good time management and the ability to work effectively in a team
A commitment to quality customer service and continuous improvement

Pre-employment requirements

Current Victorian Driver's Licence
Completed White Card training

We offer:

Salary of $80,897.37 to $93,686.65 per annum plus super (dependent on experience).
A temporary (secondment cover) full-time position to March 2027
