Sous Chef – Job Description

A Sous Chef is the second-in-command in a professional kitchen, supporting the Head Chef and overseeing daily kitchen operations. Common in restaurants, hotels, catering companies, and hospitality groups like JDA Hotels.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

Assist Head Chef in daily kitchen operations
Supervise kitchen staff (chefs, cooks, kitchen hands)
Ensure food quality, consistency, and presentation
Manage food prep during busy service periods
Train and support junior staff
Maintain food safety and HACCP hygiene standards
Assist with menu planning and recipe development
Manage stock, ordering, and reduce food waste
Step in as Head Chef when required
Ensure smooth kitchen workflow during service

Skills & Requirements

Culinary qualification (Certificate III/IV preferred)
Experience as Chef de Partie or Senior Cook
Strong leadership and teamwork skills
Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced kitchens
Knowledge of food safety standards
Good organisation and time management skills

Pay: From $6,500.00 per month
