About the Role

To provide high quality perinatal psychiatry services to clients receiving antenatal care, birthing and postnatal care in the Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital (HKH) Division of Women's, Children's & Family Health Services.
To participate in the ongoing development of mental health care service pathways at HKH for families in the perinatal period, who are dealing with mental illness, psychosocial problems and risks identified through psychosocial screening.
To collaborate in sector wide perinatal and infant mental health service development, in the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) sector.
To provide clinical supervision to HKH midwives and Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialists to assist them to care appropriately for pregnant mothers with mental health problems in the antenatal period.
To provide consultation and assistance in the management of antenatal and postnatal acute mental health illness and problems.

- To provide psychiatry advice regarding patients referred to the HKH Maternity - Fetal Unit regarding late pregnancy termination.

To participate in research relevant to perinatal and infant mental health.
To provide Psychiatry Registrar supervision and teaching if applicable related to perinatal mental health and where required to also address general consultation-liaison issues.
To contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals.
To participate in evaluation and quality improvement activities within Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital (HKH) Division of Women's, Children's & Family Health Services.

Purpose of the Position
You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD.

Selection Criteria

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.
Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
Sound clinical knowledge in Psychiatry demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Psychiatry Consultant including the practice of perinatal and infant mental health.
High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established.
Demonstrated experience in service development. Current Driver Licence.
