Sydney University Swimming is a dynamic, not-for-profit enterprising sporting organisation that provides recreation services to the general community as well as The University of Sydney’s students and staff.
Our swim pathway provides innovative and inclusive programs for children aged 3 to Open level swimmers in a relaxed, friendly environment. We ensure our classes are small so students can experience quality instruction and attention.
We are situated at the Sydney Uni Sports and Aquatic Centre in Darlington, a short 10 min walk from Redfern Station and 5 min walk from Parramatta Rd and City Rd bus routes.

We are seeking instructors who can embrace our positive swim culture, reflecting our values of respect, open-mindedness, accountability and being results driven.

Our instructors receive above-award wages, paid training, professional development, wetsuit allowance, free CPR upgrades and gym membership.
Swim Australia/ AUSTSWIM Certificate or Recognition of Prior learning of an overseas qualification is required. Flexible hours are available. You will have the opportunity to work across a broad scope of programs including community (from 3 years), schools, international watersafe and holiday intensives. Opportunity also exists for administrative and supervisory roles.
Sydney Uni Swimming values the safety and well-being of all participants in our programs – we strive for safe people, safe places and programs. As such, you must provide a valid working with children check and be willing to comply with additional child-safe training.
Remuneration
Up to $44.85 per hour (inclusive of loading + super) depending on skills and experience.

- Current Austswim or Swim Australia Accreditation
- Current NSW Working with Children
- Be flexible and willing to commit to ongoing learning.
- Be aware of differing perspectives and be inclusive of different characteristics and behaviours.

About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic junior development coach who can embrace our positive swim culture, providing high quality swim coaching to age group swimmers (10-16 years) at local and area level.
Sydney Uni Swimming fosters an inclusive and positive, training culture in which every swimmer feels valued and important to the squad.
Focus in on technical and skill development in all 4 strokes. You will be required to regularly monitor your swimmers to ensure attendance and positive skill development over the term.
Our coaches receive above award wages, paid training, professional development, free CPR upgrades and gym membership.

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications
- Current Austswim or Swim Australia Teacher of Competitive Strokes
- Preferred, Development/Foundation Coaching Certificate
- Current First Aid & NSW Working with Children
- Self-starter who is passionate about swimming and can provide positive experiences for children to remain in the sport.
- High level of interpersonal skills, and ability to create a fun and productive learning environment.
- Be aware of differing perspectives and be inclusive of different characteristics and behaviours.
