About the role and team
We have an opportunity for an experienced Property Insurance Lawyer, Associate, or Senior Associate to join our growing General Insurance practice in Melbourne. This role will focus on property damage liability claims, recoveries, and indemnity/coverage disputes. You will be responsible for and have carriage of your own files, with appropriate supervision.
Our General Insurance team in Melbourne is part of our national General Insurance practice. Led by industry-leading partners and senior lawyers, our high-performing team has expertise in subrogated recoveries (including class action recoveries), complex indemnity disputes (including fraudulent claims, litigated coverage disputes and AFCA complaints), property liability claims and professional indemnity and financial lines. Our lawyers act as coverage, monitoring and defence counsel for the Australian and London insurance markets.
Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- reviewing of documents and preparation of evidence;
- drafting correspondence to the Court and third parties;
- conferencing with witnesses and preparing witness statements;
- preparing briefs for counsel;
- drafting Court documents and attending Court;
- drafting client advices; and
- drafting letters of instruction to experts.
Skills and experience
We are keen to hear from candidates with the following:
- 3 - 4+ years of post-admission experience in insurance law, including within property damage, indemnity and/or large loss recoveries;
- experience in providing indemnity and coverage advice to a range of insurers;
- experience in managing and running litigation end-to-end through the Courts;
- clear, concise legal writing and drafting skills;
- strong attention to detail; and
- a team-orientated approach to working.
