Thermo Fisher Scientific recently announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its microbiology business to Astorg, a leading pan-European private equity firm with deep expertise in healthcare, focused on a select set of subsectors, including pharmaceutical services and technology, medtech and related services, life science tools and diagnostics.
This decision follows a thoughtful evaluation as part of Thermo Fisher’s ongoing business strategy to actively manage and strengthen our portfolio.
We expect the transaction will be completed in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and applicable regulatory approvals. Until the transaction is complete, Thermo Fisher will continue to operate the business.
If you join the microbiology business prior to the close of the transaction, your employment is expected to transition to Astorg.

How will you make an impact?
As a Production Team Leader in manufacturing Operations for the MBD Adelaide Thermo Fisher Scientific site, you will guide and develop a high-performing team while ensuring excellence in safety, quality, and production efficiency. You will coordinate department activities across shifts to meet production schedules and equipment efficiency requirements while maintaining adherence to GMP standards.
Working closely with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance and other support functions, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives, optimize workflows, and cultivate a culture of safety and quality excellence. You will manage daily production activities, conduct performance reviews, provide coaching and training, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements while maintaining optimal cost-benefit ratios.
What will you do?

Maintain a safe work environment, a high level of safety awareness among associates, and implement 5S principles.

Ensure that products are manufactured with the highest level of quality in a safe, compliant, and timely manner that will meet or exceed customer expectations.

Monitor, review, and improve manufacturing and quality related activities and drive investigations, corrective and preventative actions.

Lead daily stand up meeting (Tier 1) and escalate issues as appropriate

Co-ordinate the workload and workflow of the team and perform all tasks of a Manufacturing Technician as production demands (including preparation and communication of daily team schedule as required)

Assess and ensure all staff are trained to the level of competency required (including the latest version of the SOP) prior to hands-on task involvement.

Lead, assist and participate investigations, projects and validation as required.

Actively participate in EHS system by adhering to policies and procedures and reporting hazards to ensure a safe and healthy workplace environment.

Lead and participate in PPI activities (Kaizens and JDIs) as appropriate and regularly utilizes continuous improvement methodologies in daily work.

Lead a successful team by ensuring direct reports take accountability for their work and their development

Solve moderate to complex problems within process guidelines and guide others to do the same.

Facilitate positive team dynamics, including resolving any difference in opinion or approach

Listens, supports, engages and encourages employee suggestions and input to achieve excellent results while driving a culture of accountability
The successful candidate will have:
We are looking for a candidate with demonstrated experience in a manufacturing organization in a similar role, implementing operations continuous improvements including lean manufacturing/demand flow, Visual Management, and Daily Management. Experience with driving teams, processes, and facilitating improved performance, production Control & Scheduling and safety systems management.
The candidate will also require excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilities as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills for leading teams and interfacing with stakeholders
