## Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and technically proficient Civil Engineering Technician to join our team and provide essential support to Civil Engineering Professionals and Engineering Technologists across a range of infrastructure and construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting material and soil testing, preparing technical documentation, and assisting in the delivery of civil works from initial design through to completion. This role suits a motivated individual with a strong foundation in civil engineering principles, sound practical skills, and a commitment to quality and compliance.
## Key Responsibilities
- Prepare sketches, charts, tabulations, plans, and designs to support civil engineering works including drainage systems, water supply networks, sewage reticulation, roads, airports, dams, and other built infrastructure
- Conduct and supervise fieldwork and laboratory testing of construction materials and soils, accurately recording and analysing results to inform engineering decisions
- Collect, interpret, and process data from field surveys, traffic studies, and site investigations, carrying out computations and presenting findings in clear technical formats
- Interpret work assignment briefs and technical instructions, selecting appropriate procedures, methodologies, and equipment to meet project requirements
- Assist in estimating material and labour costs, contributing to project budgeting and ensuring that finished works are delivered within specifications, regulations, and contract provisions
- Inspect civil engineering works at various stages of construction to verify compliance with design documentation, relevant standards, and legislative requirements
- Organise and supervise maintenance and repair programmes for existing civil infrastructure, coordinating resources and scheduling works to minimise disruption
- Liaise with engineers, project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to communicate technical findings and support the timely progression of works
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of test results, site observations, material certifications, and project documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
- Support the preparation of reports, engineering drawings, and technical submissions for internal review and external approval
- Assist in identifying and resolving on-site issues, applying sound technical judgement to recommend practical and cost-effective solutions
- Adhere to workplace health and safety obligations, contributing to a safe working environment on site and in the laboratory at all times
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction, or a related discipline from a recognised Australian institution
- Demonstrated experience in a civil engineering technician or similar technical support role, preferably within infrastructure, local government, or construction environments
- Proficiency in preparing engineering drawings and technical documentation using AutoCAD or comparable drafting software
- Sound understanding of civil engineering principles, including drainage, road design, earthworks, and structural fundamentals
- Experience conducting and interpreting field and laboratory testing of soils and construction materials in accordance with relevant Australian Standards
- Ability to collect, organise, and analyse engineering data accurately, with strong attention to detail and numerical aptitude
- Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards, codes of practice, and construction regulations applicable to civil works
- Competent in the use of surveying equipment and field measurement tools
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports and liaise confidently with site personnel and project teams
- A current, valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced project environment
## Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, or progress towards an Engineering Technologist qualification
- Membership with or eligibility for the Institute of Engineering Technology Australia (IETA) or Engineers Australia
- Experience with civil design software such as 12d Model, Civil 3D, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with project management tools and document control systems used in engineering environments
- Previous experience working on government-funded infrastructure or large-scale civil construction projects
- Knowledge of environmental compliance obligations relevant to civil works, including erosion and sediment control
