We are seeking an experienced and service-driven Facilities Manager to lead the day-to-day management of our facilities function and ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the SAHMRI building. This role is responsible for overseeing building services, maintenance programs, minor works, security systems and facilities operations, while leading a small team and working closely with internal stakeholders, contractors and service providers.
This is a highly visible role that requires strong leadership, sound operational judgement and a proactive, customer-focused approach. You will play a key role in supporting researchers, partners and staff by ensuring SAHMRI’s facilities are well maintained, compliant and fit for purpose.
Key responsibilities include:
Facilities, Building and Risk Management
- Manage the annual facilities budget and identify new works in consultation with Director, Research and Facility Services
- Support business continuity, emergency preparedness and disaster recovery planning
- Oversee the Building Management System, asset management and compliance activities
- Ensure preventative, corrective and mandatory maintenance programs are delivered effectively
- Coordinate inspections, shutdowns and base building documentation
- Support project delivery and risk management across building operations
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Act as a key point of contact for facilities-related matters
- Work closely with internal teams, contractors, consultants and WHS representatives
- Support smooth facilities operations and service delivery across the organisation
Administration
- Maintain efficient and confidential administrative systems
- Support invoice and payment processing for contractor and consultant works
- Ensure templates and controlled documents are current and appropriately distributed
Leadership
- Provide day-to-day leadership across the facilities function
- Engage proactively with executive stakeholders, theme leaders and external partners
- Ensure appropriate staffing coverage, including support for out-of-hours events
About You
The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:
- Demonstrated experience in facilities, building operations or maintenance management
- Experience leading teams and coordinating service delivery
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Understanding of Work Health & Safety legislation and regulations
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to build effective working relationships at all levels
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and respond to operational demands.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems quickly
- A proactive, customer-focused and solutions-oriented approach
Desirable
- Tertiary qualifications in research, project or engineering related disciplines
- Experience in project and contract management
- Experience working in a research, laboratory or similarly complex operational environment
Special Requirements
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- Be available to be on call to manage after hours emergency /security services on a roster system.
- Travel to other SAHMRI sites may be required.
- DCSI Employment Screening and Police Checks may be required.
- This position requires a pre-employment medical examination to determine suitability for the physical requirements of the role.
