About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and community-focused Community Worker - Financial Counselling Support Services to join our Goulburn Region team on a full-time basis.

This role supports individuals, families and communities experiencing financial hardship, crisis, vulnerability and related welfare issues. The position provides person-centred support, community education, referral pathways, advocacy, casework assistance and service coordination to help clients address barriers affecting their wellbeing, independence and participation in the community.

The successful applicant will work closely with clients, community organisations, welfare agencies, government bodies, creditors, financial institutions and local service providers to promote access to appropriate support services and resources.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Community Worker will be responsible for:

Assessing the needs, circumstances and support requirements of individuals, families and community members experiencing financial hardship, crisis or disadvantage.
Interviewing clients to identify the nature and extent of their difficulties, including issues relating to financial stress, debt, housing instability, family pressures, trauma, access to services and broader welfare concerns.
Developing and implementing person-centred support plans, casework strategies and referral pathways to assist clients to access financial counselling, welfare, housing, health, employment, education, training and other community services.
Providing practical support, information, education and advocacy to clients to help them understand available options, community resources and support services.
Delivering trauma-informed and culturally sensitive support to individuals, families and significant others, including Aboriginal clients, families and communities.
Liaising with community groups, welfare agencies, government departments, financial institutions, creditors, local organisations and private businesses to address client and community needs.
Promoting awareness of available community resources, financial counselling supports and welfare services across the Goulburn Region.
Referring clients to specialist agencies and service providers where additional support is required, including legal, housing, mental health, family support, emergency relief, health and financial counselling services.
Monitoring client progress, maintaining regular contact with clients where required, and reviewing support strategies to ensure effective service delivery.
Maintaining accurate client records, case notes, reports, statistical data and service documentation in accordance with organisational, privacy and funding body requirements.
Preparing service reports, client data summaries and other documentation required by funding bodies, government agencies and internal management.
Participating in community engagement activities, interagency meetings, stakeholder forums and local networks to identify community needs and improve service coordination.
Contributing to the development and delivery of community education initiatives that build financial capability, service awareness and community resilience.
Supporting continuous improvement, professional supervision and professional development activities to maintain high-quality community service practice.
Working in accordance with organisational values, the Code of Conduct, the Sanctuary Model principles, relevant professional standards and all workplace policies and procedures.

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will have:

A Diploma or higher qualification in Community Services, Financial Counselling, Welfare, Social Services or a related field.
Experience working with individuals, families or communities experiencing financial hardship, crisis, trauma, disadvantage or complex welfare needs.
Demonstrated ability to assess client needs, provide support, develop case plans and make appropriate referrals to community and welfare services.
Strong understanding of community services, welfare systems, financial hardship support, credit and debt issues, and referral pathways.
Experience liaising with community organisations, welfare agencies, government bodies, creditors, financial institutions and other stakeholders.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare case notes, reports and client documentation.
Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed, person-centred and culturally responsive practice.
Knowledge and understanding of the impact of intergenerational trauma on Aboriginal people, families and communities.
Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, professional boundaries and continuous improvement.

Desirable

Accreditation or eligibility for accreditation with a recognised financial counselling or community services professional body.
Experience providing community education or group information sessions.
Experience working in regional or rural communities.
Current driver licence and willingness to travel within the Goulburn Region as required.

You will be a motivated and empathetic community services professional who is committed to supporting vulnerable people and strengthening community wellbeing. You will be confident working directly with clients, engaging with local service providers and helping people access the resources they need to regain stability and independence.

Employment Conditions

This is a full-time position of 38 hours per week. Some regional travel may be required to support service delivery across the funded service area.
