The role

As a Senior Risk Analyst Governance & Behavioural Risk in our Sydney or Melbourne office, you will work on a range of initiatives to support our frontline teams in the resilience of Australian Financial Services. Scope of work will include the supervision of our regulated entities through understanding data, prudential reviews and meetings, responding to material events in industry, and driving the way we transform our understanding of Non-Financial Risk internally and in industry through targeted programs of work aligned to the APRA corporate plan.

The team

Cross-Industry Risk Division (CRD) brings together risk and system specialists, who collaborate with frontline divisions in supervising regulated entities and play a key role in identifying risks and trends across industries and the financial system as a whole. The branches in CRD are organised into Financial Risk, Non-Financial Risk and System Risk.

The Non-Financial Risk team is responsible for supporting prudential oversight across Banking, Superannuation and Insurance, including driving excellence across APRA supervision, industry groups and our regulated entities. The team serves as subject matter experts and thought leaders in CPS 220 Risk Management, CPS 230 Operational Risk Management, CPS 231 Outsourcing, CPS 232 Business Continuity Management, CPS 234 Information Security, CPS 510 Governance, CPS 511 Remuneration and CPS 520 Fit and Proper (as well as commensurate prudential standards specific to industry).

Key responsibilities

Contribute towards the strengthening of APRA’s governance framework for banks, insurers and superannuation trustees, ensuring governance standards reflect contemporary best practice;
Engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders, providing specialist advice and uplifting capability;
Leading in prudential reviews (focusing on governance risk) and engage with regulated entities to drive improvement in risk outcomes; and
Identify and champion continuous improvement opportunities for team efficiency and effectiveness.

About you

Substantial knowledge and experience in governance, and familiarity with culture, remuneration and accountability practices in financial services;
Experience leading reviews, including running interviews and workshops with senior leaders;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Substantial organisational, self and priority management skills, including proven ability to lead strategic engagement externally and coordinating cross-divisional processes;
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field; and
Experience in consultancy, financial services, risk management and/or regulation is highly desirable.
