The Role
Jarrah House is a small residential drug and alcohol treatment facility supporting the rehabilitation of women. Children under the age of 5 can attend the program with their mother.
We are looking for Registered Nurses to work on a full-time, part-time or casual basis to cover a rotating roster across morning, afternoon and night shifts, 7 days a week.
The RN plays a key role within the clinical team, collaborating with counsellors, AOD workers and other team members to deliver effective medical and therapeutic interventions. Often operating as one of two on-site clinical staff, the RN supports the detoxification and primary health care needs of Jarrah House residents.
Key accountabilities for the role include:
- Supervising medicated and non-medicated detoxification and supporting clients on opioid treatment programs
- Coordinating the medical treatment and health education of clients to support their ongoing journey
- Understanding case management and intake assessment processes and techniques, contributing to those processes specifically in the context of addiction and mental health.
- Triage nursing to effectively manage the effects of substance use and/or detoxification.
- Managing escalation.
- Collaborating with others on the collection of data for reporting or research purposes.
- Conducting education group for women in treatment, including in Women's Health

About You
This role is suited to someone who is collaborative, reliable and genuinely committed to empowering women during detoxification and rehabilitation.
You’ll bring:
- Nursing qualifications and experience working as a Registered Nurse
- Mental Health qualifications are not essential but are highly regarded
- Understanding of, or interest in learning about, drug and alcohol nursing
- Experience maintaining client records and applying policies and procedures
- An ability to maintain professional boundaries when supporting vulnerable people.
Essential Requirements:
- Identify as a woman - we have an exemption from sections 25 and 51 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 to advertise, designate and recruit women only in all positions that work directly with, or are in regular contact with clients
- Unrestricted registration as a Nurse (Division 1), General, on the AHPRA Register of Practitioners
- COVID-19 and whooping cough vaccinations (or willing to be vaccinated)
- The right to work in Australia
- Valid Class C Driver's License and willingness to drive for work
- A minimum of three years’ experience as a Registered Nurse
- Willing to gain a current Criminal Record Check clearance
- Willing to gain a Working with Children Check clearance

What We Do
Jarrah House is the residential rehabilitation location for the Women's Alcohol and Drug Advisory Centre Incorporated (WADAC), a Non-Government Organisation providing services in withdrawal management, rehabilitation and individual and group counselling, and services to improve the wellbeing and health outcomes of families and carers, and the people they support.
The voluntary admission Residential Rehabilitation Centre in South-East Sydney, Jarrah House, is a place of care and compassion for women experiencing drug and alcohol dependence. A ‘women’s only service’, it is one of a small group of restricted-entry services and the only one in NSW providing in-house residential withdrawal management and Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) participation with dependent children also in residence.

The role reports to the Nurse Manager and can be full-time, part-time or casual, including night and weekend work.
