The business offers a wide range of fresh meat products, including premium beef, lamb, pork, poultry, BBQ products, hot pot meat slices, marinated meats, and other value-added products tailored to the preferences of its diverse customer base. In addition to providing quality products, the business places a strong emphasis on customer service, product presentation, stock availability, and efficient retail operations.
About The Position
As a busy retail business, M & G Butcher manages significant daily sales volumes and inventory turnover, requiring effective supervision of staff, stock control, purchasing activities, customer service standards, and overall store operations. The business employs a team of qualified butchers and front-of-house staff, including cashiers and sales assistants, who work together to ensure efficient operations, high product quality, and excellent customer service.
To support the continued growth and daily operation of the business, M & G Butcher requires a skilled Retail Manager to oversee and coordinate retail operations, supervise staff, manage inventory and purchasing activities, monitor sales performance, maintain customer service standards, ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements. The position plays a key role in supporting the efficient operation of the business and maintaining a positive shopping experience for customers.
Reporting To This role reports to the Business Owner / Director
Tasks and Responsibilities
· Determining the product range and product mix, including fresh meat cuts, marinated products, smallgoods, and value-added meat products, based on customer demand, seasonal trends, sales performance, and market conditions.
· Establishing and maintaining customer service standards to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and a positive shopping experience for a diverse customer base.
· Selling meat and related products to customers and providing advice on product selection, preparation methods, cooking techniques, storage requirements, and product use.
· Monitoring sales performance and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and overall business performance.
· Formulating and implementing marketing, merchandising, and promotional activities, including in-store displays, product promotions, local advertising, and social media initiatives to increase customer engagement and sales.
· Managing product displays and ensuring stock is presented in a clean, attractive, and well-stocked manner consistent with food safety requirements.
· Determining stock levels and inventory requirements based on sales trends, customer demand, seasonal factors, and supplier lead time to ensure adequate product availability.
· Formulating and implementing purchasing policies and procedures, including sourcing products, liaising with suppliers, negotiating pricing and supply arrangements, and maintaining product quality standards.
· Setting and reviewing product prices in accordance with market conditions, business objectives, operating costs, stock levels, and profitability targets.
· Maintaining accurate records of stock levels, inventory movements, purchases, sales transactions, wastage, and other financial transactions.
· Undertaking budgeting activities, monitoring financial performance, controlling costs, and implementing measures to maximise profitability and business sustainability.
· Controlling the selection, recruitment, training, rostering, and supervision of staff, including butchers, sales assistants, and other retail employees.
· Allocating duties, monitoring staff performance, and providing ongoing coaching and support to ensure efficient operations and compliance with company standards.
· Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety (WHS) regulations, food safety standards, and company policies.
· Maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic workplace and ensuring staff follow safe work practices, food handling procedures, and workplace safety requirements.
Qualifications, education, experience, and abilities required:
Qualifications/Education
· At least a relevant Diploma qualification in Business, Management, Retail Management, or a related field.
· A Food Safety Supervisor Certificate is compulsory.
Experience/ Knowledge
· At least two years of management experience within the retail butchery industry.
· Demonstrated understanding of retail meat operations, including meat product selection, inventory control, merchandising, customer service, and food safety requirements relevant to a retail butcher shop.
· Experience working in a multicultural retail environment, with the ability to effectively communicate with customers and staff from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Essential Skills and Requirements:
· Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse and multicultural customer base.
· Sound understanding of retail operations, including stock control, merchandising, and daily store management.
· Ability to analyse sales performance and make practical decisions to improve operational efficiency and business outcomes.

· Basic financial management skills, including budgeting, cost control, and record keeping.
· Strong staff supervision skills, including rostering, task allocation, and team coordination.
· Knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and workplace health and safety requirements relevant to a retail butchery environment.
· Problem-solving ability and adaptability to respond to customer needs and operational challenges
Salary
Below is the annual base salary to be paid, plus superannuation contributions made at the level prescribed by the Superannuation Guarantee laws, or any laws that replace them. Annual base salary is AUD $82,992 plus superannuation.
