As the way Australians shop continues to evolve, our Data and AI Team keep Coles at the forefront of modern retail. We combine data, artificial intelligence, and applied engineering to reimagine how our stores, supply chain, and digital channels operate — creating smarter, more connected, and seamless experiences for our customers and team members.
Operating as a centralised development and enablement function within Coles Technology, the team unites product, engineering, and platform capabilities to deliver the intelligence layer of the enterprise. We serve every part of Coles — from computer vision applications that enhance in-store experiences and reduce loss, to forecasting, optimisation, and decision-support solutions that drive efficiency, accuracy, and agility across our supply chain, retail operations, and corporate functions.

We are currently recruiting an experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) who will sit within the Data & AI Technology Hub and implement and maintain SRE practices to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of Data & AI platforms.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

Develop and manage monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions to proactively detect and resolve issues.

Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews to drive continuous improvement.

Automate operational tasks and deployment pipelines to reduce manual effort and improve system health.

Collaborate with engineering, support, and product teams to embed reliability into platform design and delivery.

Contribute to the definition and tracking of service level objectives (SLOs), error budgets, and platform health metrics.

Support onboarding of new services and components into the SRE ecosystem, ensuring operational readiness.

Ensure compliance with security, governance, and operational risk standards.

Proven years in site reliability engineering, DevOps, or platform operations roles.

Experience supporting cloud-native platforms (e.g., Azure, Snowflake, Databricks).

Hands-on experience with monitoring, automation, and incident management tools.

Exposure to operational risk, compliance, and security practices.
Qualifications
-
Strong understanding of SRE principles and IT service management (e.g., ITIL).

Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash, Terraform).

Experience with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Certifications in SRE, cloud platforms, or ITIL are desirable.
