About Us

Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the `Courts Group'.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The MCV determines in excess of 200,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, dealing with over 90 percent of all adult cases that come before Victorian courts each year.

About the Role

Use your expertise in family violence to make a real difference for Affected Family Members at a critical point in their court journey.

The FVAP plays a critical role in the Magistrates' Court of Victoria's response to family violence, working as part of a dedicated team alongside the Family Violence Registrar (FVR) and Respondent Practitioner. Together, you will support the safety of women and children while contributing to holding perpetrators accountable. You will provide trauma-informed, non-legal support to individuals experiencing family violence-assessing immediate risk, developing safety plans, and connecting clients with appropriate services for ongoing support.

In this role, you will engage directly with applicants through focused, single-session interactions-assessing immediate non-legal needs, conducting risk assessments, and developing practical safety plans. You will provide clear information and connect individuals with the right external services to support their safety and longer-term wellbeing.

Working alongside the Judiciary, Court Registrars and community organisations, you will build strong partnerships to ensure coordinated and effective support. You will apply the MARAM framework and share risk-relevant information under the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme to proactively manage risk and enhance safety outcomes for those affected by family violence.

Key responsibilities:

Deliver crisis support, risk assessment (MARAM-aligned) and safety planning at court
Provide clear information, referrals and coordinated support to applicants
Collaborate with police, legal services, court staff and community agencies
Maintain accurate case records, data and reports
Build strong partnerships to enable effective, timely referrals
Contribute to service improvement, stakeholder engagement and community education

About You

You will:

Hold a relevant tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, social sciences or a related discipline, and/or bring demonstrated experience and a strong understanding of family violence, including its drivers, risk factors and compounding issues.
Bring well-developed skills in providing client support, crisis intervention and risk assessment, alongside the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
Demonstrate strong understanding of the Family Violence Protection Act, MARAM and service systems
be skilled at engaging sensitively with diverse and vulnerable communities
Be highly organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities
Be committed to integrity, respect and delivering high-quality, client-focused outcomes
