Cook / Kitchen HandPosition Overview
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Cook / Kitchen Hand to join our café team. The successful candidate will assist with food preparation, cooking, cleaning, and general kitchen duties while maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook food according to recipes and café standards.
- Assist with food preparation, including chopping, cutting, portioning, and plating.
- Assist chefs and other kitchen staff during busy service periods.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, preparation areas, and equipment.
- Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
- Receive, unpack, and store food deliveries appropriately.
- Check food quality, freshness, and expiry dates.
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety procedures.
- Maintain correct food storage and temperature-control practices.
- Assist with stock rotation and inventory management.
- Minimise food waste and maintain efficient use of ingredients.
- Clean floors, benches, cooking equipment, refrigerators, and other kitchen areas.
- Follow reasonable instructions from the Head Chef, Chef, or Café Manager.
- Work efficiently as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen is preferred.
- Basic cooking and food preparation skills.
- Good understanding of food hygiene and safety.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays when required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move kitchen supplies and equipment safely.
- Ability to work in a busy and sometimes hot kitchen environment.
