We are seeking a Carpenter to work in a full time (80 hours/fortnight) capacity based at Nhill.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
- The Carpenter undertakes building, construction, joinery, fit-out, maintenance and related trade activities across West Wimmera Health Service.
- The role supports safe, functional and well-maintained facilities through general construction work, preventative maintenance, maintenance requisitions, procurement of building
materials and coordination of specific projects under the direction of the Engineering & Maintenance Manager.
- The Carpenter is expected to complete work to a high standard of safety and workmanship, comply with relevant building, quality and
WHS requirements and contribute positively to WWHS values and service delivery.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential :
- Qualified Carpenter.
- Extensive knowledge of Building Code of Australia requirements and other relevant building, construction and maintenance requirements.
- Effective communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of the Engineering team.
- Excellent building, construction and joinery skills, including capacity to use trade tools and cutting equipment safely.
- Ability to read, interpret and update plans and drawings.
Desirable :
- Computer skills including Outlook, email and computerised maintenance or record-keeping systems as required.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety principles.
- Training in the principles of infection prevention and control.
- Previous experience working in a health service, aged care, public sector or multi-site environment.
PRE-REQUISITES:
- NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
- Working with Children Check.
- Fully vaccinated (including influenza) as per current Department of Health Directives.
- Australian Driver’s License.
KEY RESPONSBILITIES:
- Undertake general construction, carpentry, joinery, fit-out, concreting, tiling, plastering and related maintenance works across WWHS facilities.
- Carry out preventative and responsive maintenance activities and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Support safe project delivery, including ordering materials, obtaining quotations and checking received building goods in accordance with procurement and organisational requirements.
- Work safely and professionally with staff, contractors, patients, residents, visitors and community members across WWHS sites.
- Contribute to quality, safety, risk management, infection prevention, accreditation and continuous improvement activities relevant to the role.
