About the role
We are seeking passionate and dedicated Academic Placement Assessors (Academic Liaison Visitors) to join our Social Work program. We are open to sessional appointments, offering flexibility to suit a range of availability.
Opportunities are available across multiple campuses, with flexibility to support students and placement agencies through a combination of online and in-person engagement, where required.
Reporting to the Fieldwork Placement Coordinator, this role is primarily focused on supporting students undertaking community-based field placements. You will act as the key liaison between Ikon, students, and placement agencies, providing educational guidance, monitoring student progress, and fostering collaborative partnerships to ensure a high-quality placement experience.

You are organised, collaborative, and confident providing guidance, feedback, and educational support in both face-to-face and online settings. With a strong commitment to culturally safe and inclusive practice, you thrive in a dynamic environment and are dedicated to helping students successfully integrate theory into professional practice.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor student progress through at least three liaison contacts (Learning plan, mid placement review and end placement evaluations), including at least one in person visit, to clarify educational issues, mediate difficulties and assess progress, involving the student, agency supervisor, task supervisor (where relevant) and fieldwork placement coordinator.

Act as the first point of contact for issues, questions or concerns from students, FPCs and placement agencies, fostering collaborative, genuine and respectful partnerships.

Complete liaison visits reports and assessment documentation within required timeframes.

TAssess student's ability to integrate theory with practice, including reflective practice, use of supervision, and engagement with relevant frameworks and standards.

Provide support, feedback, and guidance to FPC in relation to student learning and placement management.

Make a professional recommendation regarding student placement outcome (pass/fail) at the conclusion of placement.

Identify emerging learning needs, risks or concerns in placements and work with the FPC and relevant academic staff to address these.

Act as Ikon’s academic representative in the field, modelling professional, ethical and culturally responsive practice.
Participate in field education team meetings, professional development, and continuous improvement discussions as requested.

Provide and share best placement practices with the FPC. Support the ongoing development of the field education program through reflective practice and evaluation.

Report back to the Field Placement Coordinator about progress and any issues, requirements for further support and any concerns that may arise.

Ensure that academic operations are conducted in accordance with Ikon policies, AQF level, ESOS, and the ASWEAS national code.

Embrace and model the fundamental values of Ikon and ensure these characteristics are consistently applied across all aspects of field education delivery.
Education, Experience, and Skills:

Eligibility for AASW membership

A postgraduate qualification in social work or a directly related discipline at least one AQF level above the course being taught, or a qualification at the same AQF level with directly relevant professional experience assessed as equivalent under Ikon’s Academic Qualifications and Experience Policy (at least 5 years).

A minimum of 3 years of social work practice experience.

Knowledge of higher education requirements and AASW standards

Knowledge of contemporary social work practice and developments, demonstrated through practice, continuing professional development, scholarship, and/or research.

Knowledge of contemporary social work teaching, learning, and assessment; academic roles; modes of delivery; and the needs of student cohorts.

Passion for social work education that prepares graduates with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond effectively to disadvantage and distress in society.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills.

Willingness to undergo a National Police and Working with Children check, if required.

Lecturing, tutoring, and/or subject development experience is desirable.
