Primary objective
To provide high level project, policy, and regulatory support to the Authority, contributing to effective legislative, administrative and
governance outcomes associated with the protection of Aboriginal sacred sites.
Context statement
The Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority is an independent statutory authority responsible for overseeing the protection of Aboriginal
sacred sites on land and sea across the Northern Territory. The protection of sacred sites is recognised by the Northern Territory
Government and the broader Territory community as an important element in the preservation of the Territory’s cultural heritage, for the
benefit of all Territorians. The Authority seeks to strike a balance between the protection of sacred sites and development in the Northern
Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assess and coordinate complex projects, including the management of milestones, timeframes, consultants, and deliverables, ensuring
outcomes are achieved in accordance with agreed priorities, governance requirements, and project management principles.
2. Oversee the quality, accuracy and timeliness of project documentation and reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant legislative,
regulatory and policy requirements.
3. Act as a key liaison between internal and external stakeholders, including government, industry, and consultants, to support effective
communication, coordination, and delivery of project outcomes.
4. Support strategic stakeholder engagement, maintaining a high standard of professional communication and ensuring outcomes align
with the Northern Territory Aboriginal Sacred Sites Act and associated frameworks.
5. Manage competing priorities with a high degree of autonomy, exercising sound judgement to deliver agreed outcomes within required
timeframes and budgets.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience coordinating complex projects, including managing milestones, deliverables, consultants, and timeframes
within a public or comparable sector environment.
2. Proven ability to work effectively within legislative or regulatory frameworks, ensuring project activities and documentation meet
governance and compliance requirements.
3. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience preparing high-quality briefs, reports, and
project documentation for diverse audiences.
4. Demonstrated capacity to liaise and build effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including
government and industry representatives.
5. Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within required timeframes, exercising sound judgement and
operating with a high degree of autonomy.
6. Demonstrated ability to oversee the quality and accuracy of project documentation and reporting in a regulatory or governance
context.
Desirable
1. Formal qualifications or training in project management, public policy, law, or a related discipline.
2. Knowledge of Aboriginal cultural heritage frameworks, or experience working with cultural, anthropological, or research-based
material in a regulatory or statutory environment.
