Where you will be working:
The Central Coast Sector provides a comprehensive service aimed at treating alcohol and other drug problems. including:
- Inpatient Consultation/Liaison Service
This provides D&A ED and inpatient consultation and follow-up of referred patients discharged after hours.
These include a wide variety of services including, counselling, various groups, community detoxification and medical assessments.
- Opioid Treatment Programs
These are located at both Gosford (Kullaroo Clinic) and Wyong (Wallama Clinic). They provide specialised treatment of opiate dependence in a clinic setting and support to GP prescribers and community pharmacies providing OTPs..
- Inpatient Drug Treatment Unit (Maruma-li)
This is located at the Wyong Hospital campus and provides medically supervised withdrawal in an inpatient setting for voluntary patients. It also provides stabilization and assessment of complex cases, such as high dose transition to buprenorphine, or comprehensive assessment where barriers exist to access outpatient services. Admissions are elective although an emergency admission may be negotiated with the admitting doctor.

Prior experience in Addiction Medicine is not essential as comprehensive training will be provided to a suitable candidate in all facets of the discipline.
Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department operating theatres and obstetric services.’
Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast.
In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute located on the Gosford Hospital campus, provides additional opportunities in training and research.
